I agree with Jardry. An annual membership fee of $10 or $20 is a pittance compared to what we spend actually caching. Selling merchandise I think will result in an initial rush followed by rapidly declining sales. The lack of shops selling geocaching goods would indicate that demand is currently bei...

I checked out a couple of relatives. A sister in law in Gladstone must be pissed off as apparently her house is now/was a vacant block. Seriously though, the pics of her street are not of her street which is an old section of town. The pics shown are all new under construction houses and freshly clea...

I updated the firmware and I downloaded the latest version of gpsbabel for linux, but I still have the same problems to upload waypoints. I found out that, if I use mapsource under Windows Vista, the waypoints are uploaded fine. But I still have problems with gpsbabel under linux... and I don't wan...

A couple of related questions. Mystery/ puzzle caches show up on GC.com with the question mark icon beside the name indicating the correct type, but are labeled unknown at the very top of the page. Any ideas why? And following on, as most of the 'unknown' caches in Google Earth are actually puzzle/ ...

Mix has answered most. With regard to Shonkymaps, they work well. The only problem is the lack of memory. Only 8meg but enough to cover a fair bit of country. I've used mine with a serial - usb converter with no problems. Check out ebay again. I think you should be happy with the unit, I am with min...

View GPS Tracks in Google Earth
I was looking for a way to view GPS tracks in Google Earth. The linux version of Google Earth Plus does not have gps compatibility. I had a quick google search(don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. ) and found this site. http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=googleearth I saved my track ...

Grand view isn't it. :D If you have a look on the right hand side of the screen there is a little patch of horizontal lines. Grab with your mouse (left click and hold) and drag that edge to the left. Your map pane will appear. It's a bug that the author can't seem to fix but it only happens on the i...

I should reword what I wrote regards mapsource and Wine. It didn't work last time I tried/investigated. Having said that, Wine has been updated a couple of times since and it may work now. I haven't tried but may give it a whirl at some time. I'll be interested if you can import the shonky set. T4A ...

There are links to the required software on the bottom of the QLandkarte homepage. With synaptic, ensure you have all the repositories enabled (under software sources). QT4 should be available in the ubuntu repositories Mapsource will not work under linux/ wine. As with shonky you will need to copy ...

Geof Have you tried running the .deb you downloaded. You may need to change permissions on it to allow it to execute. Right click on it, permissions, and tick the allow execute as a program box. Then double click the file. It should download the required dependencies. The current version of Ubuntu 7....

I found and installed it. It Works! :D The package installer gives me a "dependancy not satisfiable: libc6" error so I presume that means those extras are not already installed. You need all 3 dependencies to get Qlandkarte to work. Check Synaptic, I think they should be there. Search for the names...
