Re: Munzees!

This getting a little off topic, but I think TwoDrews is at the point I was at about 18 months ago. I rectified it to some extent by focusing my geocaching energies to finding the oldest geocaches in my area. My numbers are down (less than 10 in May and June), but that was the way I was caching when...

Re: Munzees!

I don't think you can compare the early days of geocaching with the early days of munzee. For example, the number of GPS receivers in people's hand in 2000 was way less than the number of smartphones in 2011. I agree with Twodrews that will always play second fiddle to geocaching, but it is better r...

Re: rss feeds for events, top rated

I see what you mean. Takes long enough just to do one query. Obviously the best way to go about it is to grab a copy once a day/week and save it on our site for display. I need to get my head around it a little more, as I'd need to create a style sheet to display the xml nicely. Maybe I make someone...

Two years later. Could I please have a feed - or a pointer to a feed - that shows the top finders of geocaches in NSW?

Re: No cache size? No hint? What the?

I'm with the Bear. If I don't find it the first time, I'm not all that likely to search a second. There are so many great caches out there to be found, and my time is too precious to waste on a cache hidden for the purpose of frustrating finders.

Re: Being reamed for data charges when overseas

Agree with the above, the only downside with NZ Telecom (which has the best coverage) is that not all phones work with them. I think you need a quad-band phone because of the frequency of their network. From memory iPhone is good, but most (all?) HTC phones are out.

Re: Being reamed for data charges when overseas

pjmpjm, they're useless. We've tried them in China and India and they don't work all that well.

My suggestion in the topic Tuena points to, is to get a prepaid SIM from the country you're going to. There are a number in NZ. I used 2 degrees and they were quite good.

Re: My Query - eliminating frogs & gnomes

One way of doing it in GSAK is to filter for Moveable caches hidden on 1/12/2010 or 1/12/2011, check they are frogs or gnomes and delete them making sure you select 'Don't import again in the future'.

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

I would like to know from the organisers, is there going to be an emblem for the NZ Mega? As you know the Oz Mega used the Murray Cod and the Platypus. Just wanting to sort out a design for a suitable pathtag. From memory, the banner on the Tarago (seen at the Flashmob Router) had a little penguin ...

Re: NZ Attendees...global roaming

I was in NZ for the World Cup and a spot of geocaching. I thoroughly recommend 2 degrees. The National Data packs will give you 3G data across most of the country http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/prepay/pricing/value-packs/national-data Their coverage isn't as good as NZ Telecom, but it was adequate ...

Re: OZ MEGA ALBURY WODONGA

We got home yesterday and had a great time at the Mega Event. We spent quite a bit of time on site, but did manage to grab three caches in nearby Yackandandah (beautiful town nearby). Met many friendly geocachers and really enjoyed Saturday night's entertainment. Thank you to the committee for organ...
