I finally got Trillian re-installed again, and I have added #geocaching on Austnet (au.austnet.org::6667). I might see you guys in there some time.

eTrex Venture: 413 hours

This eTrex Venture replaces my previous Venture that became unusable when the click stick stopped working and the screen became unreadable (due to the lines problem). GME replaced it for me.

I had heard about the test screen before, but had never tried it.

agsmky wrote:Hey, Do you know if it possible that this data can be used with Oziexplorer by using MapRequest (ie does it use ArcIMS ?)
Sorry - it does not use ArcIMS or WMS, and as such it won't work with MapRequest. Maybe in a later release...

It is interesting reading the copyright and usage agreement for the NSW Lands Department maps ( http://maps.nsw.gov.au ). They allow you to reproduce maps (with conditions) for non-commercial use.

I think this is the point where I plug MapRequest again ( http://maprequest.sourceforge.net ).

The site was recommended to me by people who are usually paranoid about stuff like that, so I think it is OK. (trust-e etc etc)

Use a disposable e-mail address like those provided by www.spamgourmet.com if you are worried about that kind of thing.

OT: linkedin.com

OK - I know this is a bit OT, but I registered on www.linkedin.com today. I listed "geocaching" in my other interests, and then I did a keyword search for "geocaching" to see how many other geocachers I could see. Well there weren't all that many, but then you can only search for people who you are ...

If you have the data in .wpt format (e.g. export to Ozi from GSAK) you can convert a .wpt file to an Ozi namesearch database using the NameSearch Creator (namesrch.exe - download from oziexplorer.com somewhere).

IMHO it is a shortcoming of Ozi that you can't search for a waypoint by name.

The Victoria Land Channel web site ( http://www.land.vic.gov.au/ ) might be able to get you started. If you zoom in enough this has quite detailed maps of Melbourne. If you use MapRequest ( http://maprequest.sourceforge.net/ - a shameless plug, I know) you can build up a larger map and save it as JP...

Cache attributes

Sorry if this is old news, but it seems that the secondary site now allows you to set cache attributes along with appropriate icons. They appear at the top right of the page for caches that have them set.

If you PM me I can send you a zip of ACT caches (as genereated by GSAK). This will give you an idea of what a GPX file + GSAK gives you. Basically you plug in your beepy diary (or PDA) and copy the files to some suitable folder. Then I generally locate the index.htm file on my diary (using file expl...

The problem in Oz is the lack of ground stations providing correction information. If you have good line of sight to the Northern horizon you can probably pick up the signal, but because we are so far away from the nearest ground station the signal doesn't help much. (e.g. With my eTrex Venture with...

Ozi Explorer prints quite well. You can select which part of the map to print, and then get it to scale the output to fit multiple pages (you tell it how many).

One of the sites that MapRequest ( http://maprequest.sourceforge.net ) is configured for is a map of the South Island. It can save a .map file for Ozi.
