Re: Finding Own Caches

I don't suppose these sorts are the same that log archived caches that are clearly stated as being transferred to GC? If I wanted people to log such caches on both sites I would have left the GCA ones active. That's not playing the game the way it's meant to be played. [-X Maybe when archiving a ca...

Geocaching Gurus

Responding to another thread where a newcomer was asking for advice, I suggested the Geocaching Guru function at http://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Geocaching_guru But I also realised that some people who have volunteered in the past to take on the role may no longer be active (or even around). Shou...

Re: just found geocaching, have some questions

Also, look for events in your local area. That way you will meet some other people who will be happy to come along with you to find some in the area and help show you what you are looking for. You can also look at this page for "Geocaching Gurus" in your area who are people who have offered to help ...

Re: Finding Own Caches

I will find my own moveables once they have been moved, sometimes more than once if they have moved to a different location. Locationless I haven't really bothered listing myself, I guess you could "cheat" by listing one you know you could find a lot of something because there are a lot in your area...

Re: Beacon and Podcache dZ Bonus

True - I was thinking the only way I could do it would be to set up an access point at home that when you connect has a certain splash page giving you further info on the final hiding spot. I think I have an old one here that would allow me to do that, my main ADSL router won't let me run a second S...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

This caused me some confusion so I made this: https://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Uploading_logs#Log_Date_Issues OK, I am probably almost as confused as I was before :? but is there a fix? Like a GSAK macro that will strip the time from the data before the GPX export or set it to something sensible...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

On a similar vein when I do imports to help keep the db up to date, I often see messages saying Updated date of log or similar. Whether this is because they have previously been imported and since amended by the finder on the other site I haven't been able to work out.

Re: Report Site Issues Here

I got the same 2 come through, at which point I turned off my notification for new Locationless at least temporarily in case the whole database was going to come down.

Re: Can i be a travelling Geocache

At the page https://geocaching.com.au/my/alert/

Yes it seems so, I can set my alert to include a geocacher as a type and a radius. I can't do the same with locationless, it resets to 0km as I guess coords are always 0,0. All good then.

Re: Can i be a travelling Geocache

Hmmm, while we can set up notifications for new caches, or moving caches coming into the area - is there a notification alert I can set if a Geocacher geocache moves into my area (as it is a locationless type). If not perhaps it is something we could think about. Otherwise I would miss knowing unles...

Re: glueing magnets to plastic

I'm not sure of the best glue, but one hint to help glue stick to the plastic is to rough up the surface first with some coarse sandpaper so the glue has something to bind to. Another product I have used when painting them is called ESP (Easy Surface Preparation) - you should be able to find it at a...

Re: Trig point?

It looks more like a survey marker to me. NZ has a range of geodetic markers ranging from full blown trigs to survey markers like we have over here. I couldn't find a D170 near Queenstown but if you have more accurate coords you might be able to check here under advanced search. https://www.linz.gov...

Re: What's new on Geocaching Australia

That picture rotate sounds like a nice feature as the site has traditionally occasionally mucked up what I have uploaded from the phone or the laptop, of course on the laptop pics from my decent camera doesn't have the EXIF info to show what the rotation should be. It was only ever a minor annoyance...
