Re: group raids
What? You mean you are supposed to actually visit these locations, and put a physical entry in the log book that is supposed to be in the container? WHoa. i better start playing properly then! I take it that it would be cheating to post a find on a cache you have never even been within koo-...

Happy Anniversary everyone and many thanks to all who have contributed over the journey
Hey, I didn't realize overseas cachers were using GCA to publish their caches now - watchout Groundspeak, here we come

Re: group raids
You're the one who started with the legality. I'm not sure what you're referring to - I don't think I've appealed to the rules at any stage What's a "high rated cache"? A 5/5? What makes that a "high rated cache"? The fact that the terrain is high? The difficulty is high? There is nothing "high qua...

Re: group raids
No, because there's a law against that. OK, pick something that's not illegal - like trashing the neighbour's geocaches. The technical legality's not the point. The only rule of geocaching is your name is in the log book. Call it a cop out if you like, but that's the way it is. I will do as I see f...

Re: group raids
What would people actually consider to be cheating when it comes to this sort of thing? Everyone plays differently, so you are only cheating yourself (i.e. your own set of "rules"). Some didn't sign the book on Saturday because they have a different set of "rules" (ethics) to others. If you've over...

What a cop-outcaughtatwork wrote:You can't cheat in a game that has no rules.
As a respected, old-time, established geocacher with a wide audience it should be your responsibility to encourage high ethical and moral standards.
Oh dear, where will it all end

Re: group raids
As someone who wasn't at the "tree event" on Saturday, I am disappointed that I missed out. Opportunities like that don't arise very often, hence the difficulty rating of 5 remaining appropriate. The only "cheapening" that has occurred has been by the cache owner, who has since changed the D/T rati...

Re: group raids
Can't people attend these events and derive the same enjoyment without having to get a smilie? I was there on Saturday and thought it was a really great occasion and I didn't sign the logbook. Really, it's those cachers that actually manage to overcome the obstacles that suffer from their achievemen...

Re: 10th anniversary Cool things to note!
That graph is GCA dude. I found a GCA cache before you did. This for combined GCA and GC. http://geocaching.com.au/stats/cachers/all/world/0025_cachers_by_oldest_active I think there are a few oddities, all the same. I think gahpee are the longest serving cachers, yet they're only 7th on the table....

Re: 50% off Sistema at K-Mart
They were half price at Coles today (in Vic) - but there was a special bargain - a pack of 3 of the 1.2l sandwich sized ones for $4.79. They're normally $5.50 each!

Re: Garmin - A tale of woes!
So a new O300 (complete with re-ID'ed maps) for a bit over half price. Now we have his&hers Oregons, but more importantly, we have one that can stay plugged into the car charger on trips. 8) Bear in mind that it is not necessarily the plugging/unplugging that may be wearing the USB connector - it m...

Re: Launching Australia's First Ever Mega Event-Wagga Wagga 2010
Has anyone thought to prepare an electronic map of the area that can be used in OziExplorer? Ian, Ozi maps exist for this area & I have had them for years, some Wagga topo & UBD maps for the PDA & the laptop. However, since using a TomTom, Garmin Map60 & Oregon 300, I have had no need for th...

Ahhh - the truly wonderful thing about geocaching stats is that, a bit like the Academy Awards, there are so many that you're bound to win something
