Re: OSM Maps onto a GPSMAP62s

4 Y ii only Hi. I'm guessing you're after the OSM maps for Victoria. (For OSM Australia maps, and Garmin GPSmap62S) If you haven't done so already, download the Victoria maps to your Desktop or whatever. Unzip the resulting VIC_route.img zip folder (and store the unzipped folder somewhere safe). Ope...

Re: OSM Maps onto a GPSMAP62s

Hi. For compatible Garmins, they're raster (image-type) maps mainly for smaller areas. Garmin CustomMaps are exactly what the name suggests. You make them yourself, either manually or with software assistance. There's a tutorial for the manual meathod on the Garmin website. I mainly use auto-routing...

Re: garminmap62

Hi. A very similar issue has been discussed at http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19817 in the GPSAustralia Geocaching section. In my experience Garmin isn't too fond of customers using third party maps (like OSM) in Garmin devices, although it happens all the time mostly without in...

Re: Tom Tom driver

Hi. I had a similar episode recently, but without the driver error message.
Replaced the USB cable with a new one and the problems with connection to PC stopped.

Re: Android Geocaching Apps

The OruxMaps app. for Android is similar-ish to OziExplorer, once you get past the Europeanness of it's operation. Beware the user manual (egad yes) however, straight from Google Translate IE: needs interpretation in places which kind of defeats the purpose :?: .

Re: Cache difficulty/terrain ratings

My feeling is that the terrain rating should reflect the potential difficulty/danger that is faced by the cacher, rather than how you get there. I'd call that Difficulty. Terrain is geo, land, bush, mountain, gully, creeks, ocean, and other terrain/obstacles between you, and somewhere else. IMO the...

Re: New Trig - need some advice

This may be a good thread for a poll (Y/N), to get the opinion of the wider GCA community?
From the description and picture of the site, I'd say no it's not loggable. :)

Work a treat :)
Now just have to get out there looking for a few more GCA caches. Thanks.

I like Ammo cans as well. The medium quality ones are my favourite.

Re: new GCA android app

Hi mtrax. Thanks for time and effort, and foresight I think, to create the polished looking GA Cacher app for Android. Just an observation: On my phone (Motorola Flipout. Thanks PBL for the tip here.), the GA Cacher Settings page doesn't scroll up-down. Caused some grief with the little tacker scree...

Re: A motto to follow when placing caches

No. I agree with the sentiment, but 'also-rans' make the good ones good, and sometimes I just want to go for a drive or cycle or walk or whatever, and find some caches. If it's about protecting against rubbish type caches, there are already guidelines on every listing and slightly-geocaching-related...

Re: Trouble with new eTrex Vista HCx-please help a newbie

Hi. Possibly. My two cents - The Mapsource meathod should automatically name the map file and place it in the right folder on the memory card. See http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12520 (Read down a bit) for more detail. Have you tried a brand new (2GB) microSD card? May be a bad ...

Re: new GCA android app

Hi. Would it be advisable to Uninstall "GA Cacher beta" (or for that matter, any app. ) before installing the newest release?
I'm a newbie to Android phones but so far so good. :gnome
