Placement of caches

One of the topics in the ACT section of this forum is branching into a new topic, which I thought would be appropriate for the General Chit-Chat section. This is the what has prompted it: Just out of curiosity, how many caches should a person find before they can hide their own? Five? Ten? Fifty? If...

That looks like a weapon of mass (swine) destruction. I'm calling the terrorist hotline 1800 123 400.

Latest I have heard is that ACT is following Victoria's lead and bringing their margin down to 3-4 kmh. Their response, you should be driving UNDER the speed limit. Oh well, I can see a rash of speeding geocars to log this cache. Can you have multiple finds. :D

Ha ha. I just got one from my caching around Hopper's Crossing. Actually, my mother has it as it was in her car. I'll just wait for it to arrive. I got done for 64 kmh in a 60 zone - $125 and 1 point.

I can't wait to do them before winter, but a friend of mine warned me about the flies in the area at the moment. They seem resistant to Rid and Aeroguard. A real pain in the  .

There are few in the Brindabellas west of Canberra, as well as three in the high country around Jindy. I'm planning on doing these in Feb-March. Try: A Long Way To The Top by mtbikeroz (GC2ABD) The top ACT - Bimberi Wilderness by mtbikeroz (GC5895) Providence Reach by USA Greg (with AUS Dan) (GCACD9...

Landing is actually 4:05 pm AEST. I would doubt the rover will roll off today IF it lands. I used to work at the Canberra Tracking Station when Mas Pathfinder landed in 1997. It's very exciting, but much less stressful watching it at home on the Net.

I agree with tomhl.

My wife lists Geocaching as another one of my geeky pursuits (along with astronomy, surfing the Net and other things). I think the cost of a GPSr will restrict the number of people taking it up, along with the geek factor.

Point 1 (events cache): You get credit for organising an event cache in your profile section, so why should you also get an extra one - unless of course you are 'numbers driven'. If it's a joint one (ie. a number of cachers organise the event) could it be set you a consortium (eg. Beni trophy event ...

I know of one particular cache that sits in an area hit by the January 2003 fires. The area was until recently off limits, so no one has been able to check. I did email the cache owner today about joining him to look for it and I think he is planning to soon. Having said that I agree with earlier po...

Iron shouldn't affect GPS. More likely that the errors occur from reflection off large solid objects. This is something that often occurs in cities and the GPSr needs to take this into account. Is there a significant difference in the antennas of each of the GPSr units? I'm paranoid about waypoints,...

One thing I forgot to write - I usually don't log a DNF on the first failure to find, unless it's a long way from home. I attempt caches close by at least twice before logging a DNF. I am frustrated by one at the moment (Striptease - no pun) and it's more frustrating that other have found it.
