Re: Its Official-we suck at this

I am not convinced that any smartphone/tablet/ect device is as good as a stand alone dedicated GPS unit. I have around 2800 finds since 2006, from all states in Oz, found almost exclusively with dedicated GPS units- Garmin GPS60, and GPS60CSx. With the experience of all those years, I generally get ...

Re: OZ Mega Murray Bridge

Lol, Oldfella, we are heading down to the Mega 2 weeks beforehand, planning on taking a week to get to Adelaide via the Birdsville Track (provided the floodwaters drop and allow us through), so we can catch the Ghan to Darwin on the 13th, then fly back to Adelaide on the 16th, before heading to the ...

So, how are you getting to Oz Mega SA?

With just a smidgeon over 90 days till the start of the next Mega, I am currently working on some modifications to the Nissan for our trip to Murray Bridge. As some will remember, we make our trips to the Megas part of an extended caching holiday. We travelled to Wagga Wagga via Tasmania in the Niss...

Re: We're coming!

Scrolling back, I don't think this has been covered. What device do you want to use the Wifi with? Are you bringing a laptop with you? If so, you might prefer to look at a Prepaid broadband internet device, preferably with Telstra. You can get one from $49. Its only 3G, but the difference between 3G...

Re: Two Swedish cachers in a car from Adelaide to Brisbane

Most definitely, if you are travelling by car from Adelaide to Melbourne, there is only one way to go, and that's The Great Ocean Road. Not necessarily for the caching, of course, there are caches along the GOR, but primarily for the spectacular scenery.

Re: The fires

In all honesty, staying away is probably the last thing the local economy wants. Sure, stay away in the period during and immediately afterwards the fires, but once they are out, or the danger has passed, then there should be no worries. Imagine, if you will, you are a tourist business owner, not af...

Re: We're coming!

Simply download the Geocaching app. As long as you are premium members, you can do an ordinary PQ, and away you go. I was recently in Perth, using a Garmin Nuvi 500, Garmin GPS 60 CSx, as well as my smartphone. The Nuvi has Australian maps, but the 60 has no maps. And the geocaching app loads with i...

Re: We're coming!

If its yank news she is interested in, then it comes free to air on some of the secondary TV stations. She needs to check channels like 7 Mate, or GO, and out of prime time (early mornings) for what is essentially (due to the time difference) yesterdays news. And, as was stated in The Worlds Fastest...

Re: Need new GPS

A lot depends on the peripherals you have as well. If you old 60 was the sum total of what you have, then its a pretty easy choice to move to a new GPS. If however, you have external power supplies, cradles, ect, for the old one, then you would want to be looking at a new one that uses your existing...

Re: Irritating cache ideas....

Anyone up for hiding a mischievous cache with just a hint of haystack? http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/the-lock-of-love-secures-romance-20130716-2q14g.html Thankfully the proximity rule keeps us safe from any maliciousness :D Otherwise it'd be sorely tempting! Anyone else with cache ideas that ar...

Re: Oddball 'communities'

Bell ringers (campanologists). I come from a family of bell ringers (I haven't done it for years myself) and I know there is a Melbourne bell ringer who posts in the forums sometimes (he mentioned a recent trip to Adelaide to ring at the cathedral there). Just don't tell my relatives that they are ...

Re: Why is it so? Garmin GPS60CSx

All sorted, thanks for everyones replies. Don't know what setting it was, but I ran both GPSs side by side, and went through every setting, duplicating the old onto the new. A couple were changed. Obviously it was one of them that was the issue.

Cheers

Why is it so? Garmin GPS60CSx

I have owned a Garmin GPS60CSx for a number of yearsused to find over 2000 caches. In fact I wore it out. It suffered a bit of damage through use. I looked at the new 62s, but was not impressed, particularly the fact I would have to replace all the peripherals, and the piss weak micro USB port used ...

Re: What should be a short trip....hours later

When I was heading south on the bike to Oz Mega Albury Wodonga, I deliberately went via Toowoomba/Warwick/Stanthorpe to pick up some of the caches along the main road. As I approached the granite belt, the Nuvi screen was swamped in little green boxes. I had to bite my tongue, and just pass any by t...

Re: How many do I need to find to use a generic log

I have used generic cut and paste logs in the past, but only when we are travelling and thats when we find our most finds. The cut and paste usually only includes Find number of the day, find number of the trip, Dayy of the trip, and time. After that, most caches get a specific log in regards to tha...
