So how powerful are the magnets in the hard drives and is it worthwhile dissecting them. I have a few old drives sitting around as well.quiet1_au wrote:

Re: Hiding Caches with a Smartphone..
I ran out of data at the Albury Mega Event, so I had to stop using Google Maps. The compass app on my Android phone was unbelieveable accurate in finding all of the caches. Perhaps the hiders are better at co-ords in Albury. At least I didn't have to use my wife's Iphone to find them.

Re: Collective noun for a group of cachers
Officially, would it be an "event" of cachers, unless they didn't find one, in which case it would be a "non-event" of cachers.

I like it, but wouldn't it be an eclipse of cachers.....(maybe there should be a TM in there somewhere)Yurt wrote:Not a mint tin of cachers at least!Bewilderbeest wrote:

Collective noun for a group of cachers
After attending the OzMega in Albury and meeting lots of interstate cachers (but very few NSW cachers - did any actually attend), it got me thinking, is there a collective noun for a group of cachers. I would like to say a swarm because at some of the Albury cachers there were just lines of cachers ...

Re: Hiding Caches with a Smartphone..
I can't understand why Sat Maps aren't acceptable to do co-ords for urban hides. It is a lot easier to find caches particularly as using a sat nav is usually iffy to find them. Would it be rude to say that averaging co-ords is so last century.

Re: Hiding Caches with a Smartphone..
If you hide it with an iphone on the groundspeak site, and it is an iphone with a real gps like an iphone4, make sure you say that. If you hide one with a iphone3, the reviewer will knock it back as it wasn't hidden with a phone that has a real gps. I know this from early experience in hiding and I ...

Re: c:geo offline maps
Hmm. I tried the same thing by downloading a pocket query, but no maps appear when there is no data connection. I might have to try a computer with more memory to process the maps.

Re: Iphone cachers
I have to say that the problem with logs has nothing to do with smart phones. Once you hide a cache, and realise that you get an email each time there is a find, it changes how you perceive caching. My logs certainly changed after that from tftc to something a bit more significant (provided I have t...

Iphone cachers
As a recent cacher convert, I am puzzled why the "old-timers" seem to have a problem with Iphone cachers. Surely, we all have to start somewhere, and why would I fork out some serious dollars to buy a GPS unit when I am not sure I am going to stick to this pastime? So what is wrong with Iphones (or ...

If the logbook was missing, or full (and assuming you don't have a replacement log or piece of paper), would you claim the find.

Re: Cachers who refuses to sign the log book
The problem is I'll always wonder how really accurate the Stats are of that particular geocacher. Does it really matter if their stats are out by claiming false finds. It's only a game, there is no ranking table, and we are all volunteers (if you are being paid, I want to know how to get my share)....
