Re: GA map

When I loaded the extra numbers for my international catches, would my Chatham Island catches have been counted too?

GA map

Does this map only display caches in Australia and NZ (although the NZ Chatham Islands (part of NZ) appear excluded)?

Re: Event Ideas

I attended an event (GC5R5PY) in London that was held in a pub, and advertised as being held in a pub, plus it was mentioned that they sold food. I don't see that as different from being held in a cafe, unless Australian reviewers think differently. A cafe is a good idea in cold weather, but prefera...

Re: Do cool caches grow legs (via geocachers)?

I had the cutest of cute plastic tortoises as a cache. It was getting favourites. Then it disappeared. My theory is someone else thought it was cute too.

Re: Purge of missing movable caches

Some highway overpasses have gaps underneath high up under the road that might fit something like that. If you were in Canberra I would have made a suggestion to investigate. Check under the road passes over your local railway line. Some might be suitable, especially any new concrete ones. But it wi...

Re: Purge of missing movable caches

Yes, that was a concrete bridge. I would put that in a sealed plastic container, as we did with one moveable cache made of plaster, that had badly rotted. We re-plastered it and then repainted it, after finding it almost unrecognisable, and we didn't want it rotting again after all that work. We did...

Re: Purge of missing movable caches

"I admit I've got one I've had a bit too long, that I got at the last event I attended. Though it's not really suited to being out in the elements so I need to find a sheltered hiding spot."

Under a bridge? I found a moveable cache under one, that needed protection.

Re: Purge of missing movable caches

Thank you for all that work fixing that up =D>. That must have taken some hours.

:?: Is it possible to take a 'needs maintenance' off GA2986? Yesterday we fixed that cache up with a new log, cache and plastic bags, so this cache is all pristine again, (and not a crumbling, mouldy mess as it was).

Re: Is Geocaching Australia worth pursuing?

After reading this, tonight I loaded all the GA traditional caches and trig points in Canberra into my Garmin, so when out caching I will find the GA ones too. I also logged a number of trigs I have visited, but until now had not logged.

Re: Is Geocaching Australia worth pursuing?

I like the forum most here and find it very useful. I would hate it to go. I only find the occasional GA cache, but I should make a greater effort and load more local ones into my Garmin. I logged a trig last night and a GA cache today in an effort to increase my GA finds.

Re: Mystery caches

Yes, on the cache page click on the co-ordinates, a box titled "Corrected Coordinates (hidden from others)" will appear. Then type in the new co-ordinates where it says "Change To:" and click "Submit".

Re: Caches in children's playgrounds

I have just returned from a failed FTF. I settled with second. It was outside a playground with children there. Several male cachers were leaving, without making the find, as I arrived, and I was told they left because there were children there. Even as a female I kept my back to the playground as m...

Re: Caches in children's playgrounds

Bird watching...I like that. =D> I have been known to use photography as an excuse to cover my caching. These days with digital - not wasting film - I can even click the camera occasionally. Many times I have grabbed my camera before I begin the search for just this reason. I was caught coming out f...

Re: Is this typical Aussie style?

... The only mysteries that are at the posted coordinates here are challenge caches where it clearly stated that "the cache is posted coordinates" ... This is not always 100% true as some non-challenge mystery caches are at the posted coordinates but perhaps I'm saying too much. :-$ Whoops, probabl...

Re: "Commercial" events?

I had to remove from a cache listing that it was possible to get a coffee from the nearby shops, as I was told that was commercial. It wasn't just one cafe, but several, so I wasn't plugging a business, but still I couldn't mention this. I like to know where I can take a break when caching and get a...
