Re: Hunting Time

I can understand getting D ratings wrong (they are a bit subjective) but the guidelines for terrain are pretty clear and they should always be within 0.5 of the correct rating you'd think. I've seen caches that require climbing into the roof beams of picnic shelters rated 1.5. I've noticed tree clim...

Re: Is this actually a trig point?

It looks more like a marine navigation marker except that it seems to be out in the bush. Is it on the highest point in the area? I don't think it is a trig as I've not seen anything like that before. There would usually be some other markings on the stone as well. Interesting though.

Re: Munzees!

Got this email just then: Howdy Yurt Your account has been placed into an "inactive" status. This indicates you have not captured or deployed a munzee in the past 365 days. We would love for you to get back in the game! We have updated the app since you last played and think you will really enjoy so...

Re: Pokemon Go

One of the kids says students at high school are seen walking around doing laps of the playground, akin to prisoners. But it's been determined they are hatching Pokemon eggs! I guess the exercise will do them good. Normally they all sit down staring at their phones all lunchtime.

Re: Geocaching apps

If you've got an Android phone I recommend c:geo. Free and works very well. Have been using it for years. They regularly update it and the big surprise is that the improvements make it better unlike most apps, browsers or software (I'm looking at you Microsoft).

Meanwhile the Rhodes hang-out is no more. Bankstown is the new place?

Re: Pokemon Go

On cheating my teen says there's a dodgy app that lets you move around the world by just clicking moves on your screen until you get to where you want to go. It's only on the Apple phones I'm told. That way they can get to Pokemon Central (that's Rhodes in Sydney) and do their worst. I'm now chasing...

Re: Pokemon Go

Is it just because 90% of people seem to have Iphones that they gravitate to the sucky (so I'm told) app of Groundspeak vs the very handy c:geo - I assume that's Android only still? I can never quite get over how many people have the same phone. It's the default 'Nokia' when someone walks into a tel...

Re: Pokemon Go

I've had a look at it and am amazed at the amount of data to put it together. I just mean the Poke-stops - all the memorials, sporting fields and churches (are mosques and temples included?) with photos included. Did someone go out and take photos of all the objects? I thought originally it may have...

Isn't WGS84 the problem being over 30 years old? Bring back AD66!

Re: Pokemon Go

I was walking along the Strand at Townsville on Wed night and half the people (everyone under about 45) seemed to be playing. Some people rushed past me up the steps at the north end and I overheard "there's a Pokemon Gym at the top of the hill". This is all making geocaching look sane. The good thi...

Re: Places with great cache density

And yet on some maps there are big gaps even quite close to the CBDs. However I get the feeling this is where a lot of unknown or multi caches end.

Back in about 2010 in my early days I noticed a big cache void out around Windsor Road in NW Sydney. That's well and truly filled in now!

Yes that must stuff up searches. If the symbols were not used as the first character it wouldn't be a problem you'd think.
