Saw this today in the news. There's a fun cache concept in this I'm sure
OK - powering it might be a bugger, but still!

Re: Not logging DNFs
I've noticed similar things - both on my caches and others. I've seen cachers searching at caches I'm aware of, so go home to look for a find or dnf log later that day, and nothing ever appears. Likewise there are some cachers I cache with occasionally who won't log a DNF. Pride? Laziness? Combinati...

Re: CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence
Not sure if this is a new thing, or just something I've only just located, but I could see it having cache construction potential:

Re: So where/how do you draw the line re safety?
It's always a tricky area this - And we all have our own responses based on our natural style, previous experience, sense of ability, etc. etc. And even when the stats may point to something being incredibly unlikely, it doesn't always make us feel 'safe' in doing it. Sometimes the fear of the risk,...

Re: CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence
In case anyone else likes the idea of scaring the crap out of geocachers :-" , BCF's owls (the still headed ones) just dropped in price to $15 to clear them. I remember finding one of those at GZ, sitting on a fence which backed onto a park from a nearby property. Gleefully I grabbed it thinking 'a...

Re: Power options
OK, I'll start the ball rolling with an issue I've been fiddling with for a while - That of how you might keep electrical power running to a cache. I've got a design in mind that will need electricity to keep going. Not a heap, but enough to power a clock and an electronic lock. Obviously a solar p...

Re: CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence
The 'bring your own battery' is an interesting concept I hadn't considered - It won't work for what I have in mind here, but definitely one I'll jot down for future use. It also opens up options in terms of having a battery/charging station at one waypoint where it's nice and sunny, and then the cac...

Re: CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence
What about if you've had the same idea as another person and they think you are copying/beating them to it? I'm putting together a bunch of dangerous creature caches (where the cache is in a creature or attached to it) and a few themed containers in specific locations using different materials. I'm...

Re: CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence
If you do it right, you could place the solar panel a reasonable distance from the cache with the right sized cable. A GOOD small solar cell should still suffice in mixed light conditions. A little discrete 5W panel charging a 12mAh battery would give you a heap of power and allow for a few days of...

CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence
Following on from a Victorian thread, there was an idea about a dedicated section of the GCA forum to discuss issues related to cache-construction, design, placement, etc. A bit of a space for people to throw out ideas around cache design, share new products or ideas, showcase what you’ve been doing...

Re: Report GCA Site issues here
We are Geocaching Australia and we promote our own caches over the other listing sites. The speed bump of choosing the "All" option is there specifically to focus on our own, Australian grown product. This is a long standing position, but is not set in stone. If you would like to change this and ha...

Re: Report GCA Site issues here
While I'm on a request roll, here's another query.... I'm loving the new website interface, but just wondering if there's a straightforward way of bringing up the map view so that it includes both GC and GCA caches? I'd love to be able to just click on that map on the landing page and have all cache...

Re: Is Geocaching Australia worth pursuing?
For the last couple of months I've been a bit absent from GCA - Mainly because I started a new job which, for once, has me actually busy for a change, so I'm not filling my workday with recreational shenanigans... But recently I dropped in, and I must say I think the new website is looking brilliant...
