Re: Cache/puzzle spoilers

OK, thanks for the clarification, Mr Bear.
I agree that having a shared document listing puzzle coords would be extremely poor form.

Re: Cache/puzzle spoilers

I'm interested by the comment Setting up webpages or even formal group documents seems like a sad and mean thing to do, though , given that my feelings (as Tassie cachers are aware after my recent pentulance  ) are close to Z's on this, BUT my favourite find was one where another cacher and I ...

Re: DNFs Logged vs. Actual DNFs

DNFs also seem to feed each other - people seem to give up quicker if the previous log or two were unsuccessful.
But it's still worth logging a DNF, because it gives the owner and other searchers feedback about how hard it may be to find.

Re: A new feature of GC.com that I hope they don't screw up

CAPTCHA is "completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart". The most common form is the little bits of text that you have to type in on forum and geocheckers. It's supposed to make sure that a human is submitting the form, rather than a script trying repeatedly. The trou...

Re: "Computer support" phone scam

My mother got the call, and answered their initial statement with "Oh really? That's interesting", whereupon they hung up.

So stringing them along could be hard work - almost have to out-scam them.

Re: DNFs Logged vs. Actual DNFs

I probably log 80% of my DNFs. In fact, there's one on the mountain here in Hobart that I've DNFed 4 times, despite others finding it reasonably easily - I'm almost taking the piss out of myself for being so hopeless. I noticed the other day that I'm 12th in Tassie for all-time DNFs after only a yea...

Re: Google Maps - Updated?

Wow - I'm struggling to understand how they've come up with what they've done. There's a reserve near where I live, with a network of fire trails. Previously, they were all there as dotted lines. Now, one of them is there as a solind whit line (minor road?), and the others are missing, at any zoom l...

Re: Cool New Macro for GSAK! Achievement Badges!

I followed the tutorial for integrating with FindStatGen and GenUploadStats (http://kylemills.net/Geocaching/BadgeGen/fsg_integration.html) and it worked beautifully. I had to make sure I changed the FindStatGen settings to enable the Notes field (as that's where the badges were put), but that was p...

Re: Puzzle caches - solved but not found

I use the same filters as the above two posters, and a macro (MyGME) to export to Google Maps.
MyGME has an option where you can export to a website - so if you have some free hosted webspace with your ISP, you can put the map there, and access it from any computer/smart phone.

Re: “Find your own cache”

I've placed one cache, and I "marked" standing right over the hide, then walked away 20m north(ish), came back, marked again, walked away a different direction, came back, marked agin, etc. After I had 5 readings, I turned the GPSr off, turned it on again and repeated. The whole thing took about 6 m...

Plotting caches from GSAK in Google Maps

I have all my intended and found caches in GSAK. When I solve puzzles, I use the "corrected coordinates" feature, and I have a search filter call "solved puzzles" which lists these. What I want to do is to create a map in Google Maps (so that I can print it out showing the streets) with unfound trad...
