Re: GAFF
Speaking of which I'm seeing a lot of GAFF-0 logs posted. That's actually (according to the Geowiki) when you happen to be somewhere (not actually out geocaching perhaps) and see something that might contain a cache and bingo! the way I read it. What are the chances of that happening? Anyway each t...

Re: Thanks for the log
How about a thumbs up rating system where the cache owner can rate a log, in the same way a finder can rate a hide.
That doesn't go back to the finder directly and fill their in box with unwanted mail, but it does leave a permanant mark of appreciation on the log.

Re: Guidelines for moving around cliff areas
Just to add to the discussion: 4. When on steep terrain always maintain 3 points of contact (2 feet & a hand or visa versa) with the ground. This helps to keep you stable. Personally, any cache I hide where this is mandatory ALWAYS gets a 4 terrain minimum. 9. If you do accidentally kick something o...

Re: Would a field for GPS type in the Cacher Page be a good idea
There was a previous discussion where the idea was to include the GPSr in the forum signature by expanding on the "location" field.
Look at my signature to the left and you can see I use a Garmin 60CSx.
I know a few people did this at the time.

Re: How far would YOU travel for a FTF?
According to Groundspeak Hot Guwahati! is:
It had been there 3 1/2 years before my FTF in 2008, and only logged once since.
Although I traveled 8700km by plane then 1800 by motorcycle to reach it, so 10,500KmNW 8392.1km from your home coordinates

Of course.pprass wrote:Dik - after doing all of those excellent steps, do you then test your co-ord by "finding your own cache"?
Once I have done all of that, go home, build the container and contents and return to site to hide it using the co-ordinates I have previously saved.

Re: “Find your own cache”
Here's some strategies I use: These are tools on my GPSr 1. Look at the estimated accuracy on the read out. If it is saying +/- 7m you aren't getting a good signal. I like to see +/-3m 2. Look at the page with the satellite locations. They should be plentiful and spread evenly over the display. 3 bi...

Re: Ever suffered from blind (GPS) faith?
I headed off over the dunes for an enjoyable walk. The track would disappear and then reappear. There were trees growing in the middle of it. This is a serious 4x4 track. Land Cruiser / Defender country. It was fine for the Suzuki when I placed it :D I think you missed the point, I didn't come in o...

Re: Ever suffered from blind (GPS) faith?
Oh yes, too often, like on Buck Up Without checking any notes I followed the purple line, and found myself following a HiLux down a no through road. He turned round at the end of the hard pack and I continued on down a sandy track along a fence line for a few Km. On reaching the park boundary there ...

Re: Nearmap rival to Google Earth?
Wow, that is scary clear. So much detail in my back yard. It's so clear I can see the cache container for Dizzy GCXHKH \:D/ And it's only a black pixel, but I reckon I can also see cache container A Valiant Effort ga0728 =D> (note to self: "I must hide my caches better" ) Only problem is there...

Re: Calabraiting my Garmin 60CSx
The compass function on the 60CSx only comes into play when you stop moving, the time when lesser GPSrs stop giving any direction at all, and even then you need to hold it level to work, indicated by "hold level" appearing on the screen. On the other hand, as previously mentioned, the lock to road s...
