I carry a KTi Mini Sat Alert EPIRB on all my solo walks. It weighs 250gms and operates on the 121.5/243Mhz bands. I consider it an essential piece of equipment for remote country walking and its weight is not an issue for me. I have replace the battery once (5yr life) and it cost $120 to do so. If y...

Team Derringer got involved with Geodashing a couple of years ago for about 6 months. We found that we prefer to find something physical rather than just take a photo of a geographic point. Not withstanding this - we do enjoy virtual caches, because they usually involve getting to a picturesque loca...

For a Victorian taste of adventure, try my cache BeDevilled
Although it doesn't have mines,
It does have plenty of loose rock and a 1500ft elevation change in 1/2 mile.
AND you don't have to join the Military to get to it!!!!

we are thinking of something along the lines of - allow moveable caches - allow time-sensitive caches like the old fathers day etc ones that the 2 Dogs put out - allow caches with rough or no coordinates (useful for puzzle caches) - allow more virtual caches (ie where you go somewhere searching for...

Good to see we have moved away from a numeric system. I like the proposed recommendations format. I believe that there is no further need to explain in detail why you like/recommend a cache. A user can read the cache log(s) if need be. A detailed examination of why a cache is recommended seems to be...

A Numeric cache rating system is IMHO too subjective to be of any useful purpose. As a bushwalker I would rate highly any cache with a high terrain rating. The further the cache is from a city would also score highly. This would be in contrast to most geocachers. The cache logs provide an informal s...

Its a matter of what you prefer to do in caching, Puzzles, long multis, difficult terrain caches, spreadsheet caches, mathematical puzzles, virtuals, locationless caches all have their place. As a personal preference we believe the harder a cache is to get to, the less information should be provided....

We much prefer well thought out multi caches. Intermediate points are often interesting signs, plaques, buildings etc in areas where you can't place a cache anyway. We like to experience an area when we go caching. If a cache takes 1hr, 3hrs or all day, we don't mind and prefer the length of the hun...

An excellent buy, We have a pair of the cheap Unidens UH036 and use Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeables in them. We have found the useful range to be approx 750m As with all UHF comms range is line of sight You may get 3kms range over water/hilltop, but we have never tried. We find 750m range more th...
