Taz, you do what makes you feel safe. You won't enjoy it out there, if you're frightened or worried all the time, anyway. It's not the terrain or anything that I am concerned about when I am out, I'm a Scout leader so hiking really isn't an issue for me. This is the number one reason I have trouble getting out caching. Female on my own digging around in the bushes just doesn't feel safe so if I can't find someone who will go with me I often just don't go out.
