Re: help a newbe please

You need to have an account at geocaching.com and be logged in with your user name & password to see co-ordinates. Otherwise you will be seeing a big picture with a small prompt to log in above the cache notes. An account is free. There is the option of premium membership, which is paid, but not nec...

Re: Oldest unchanged cache in Australia

Sounds probably right. GC114 hidden 1/1/2001 in SA is not long after and was certainly the original container when I found it a few years ago. Need to make a trip to find Frying Pan one day though. Probably the original container, but I got the impression the road to it might not have been there wh...

Re: elevation is out on my oregon 600

The GPS accuracy for elevation is typically 10x the horizontal error, so 30m is not unacceptable. If your GPS has a barometric altimeter then you can calibrate it, but that depends on weather conditions and needs recalibrating regularly. I have a known point at home and recalibrating to that before ...

Re: Who doesn't love a good map?

I saw it advertised on TV! Excited until I saw the location. The exhibition is FREE. Just the $500 airline ticket to deal with. And maybe a hotel, because there are no direct flights to Canbera on the weekend and it takes half the day to get there. At least Canberra is do-able from parts of Sydney. ...

Re: Caching in India

I found GCKP3J in Asam, a ftf after 3.5 years, and what was then the only cache in Bhutan GCGBZT. Both have since been archived although the one in India is probably still there. I recorded my journey by finding GCA locationless caches. There are some good ones to find such as Toppers Club (mountain...

No and no.
No cellular radio, only WiFi.
Just like my tablet.

Why have another SIM card and account when it's right next to my phone with a wi-fi hot spot

Re: GCA Cache Loot

When I wanted to create a real "treasure chest" I visited the local Red Cross op shop and not only picked up some costume jewelery, silk scaves, bud vases, napkin rings and other nik naks, I also found a large cache container there too!. I supplemented it with some items from CAC, glass pebbles, can...

Open street is great. We recently navigated around UK Italy & France with open street on the Garmin 60Csx.

Re: Known Elevation points

Find your nearest accessible trig point. That will have a known elevation. It should be recorded on a toppo map.

And it wouldn't be the first kettle I had seen as a swap in a large cache.

Re: Leaving cash good or bad ??

Personally I see no point in leaving "legal tender" in caches. Interesting "collectors" money is a different matter. I did a cache in Tassie that was dedicated to foreign coins. I have placed a cache with around $10 of copper coins 1c & 2c that gets good reviews. I think the most money I have ever l...

Re: Best time to hide / find a cache - Really cool web site

Is there a quick clever way to apply an offset? I think I can see how you could do it but my method would be a bit clunky.! Hiding, once you have your distance and bearing from a clear location you can project a waypoint using the GPS or your prefered software (eg Garmin map source). Finding a cache...

Re: Best time to hide / find a cache - Really cool web site

If you are hiding and know some of the sky is obscured at that location, you can use the PDOP site to assess the sky allowing for the obstruction by sellecting obstructions in the settings page and introduce an obstruction into the calculation by clicking on the sky diagram. This makes big differenc...

There is another answer, or further information, or whatever, related to this topic, that I have already given it's own topic, but probably worth a link here>
