Re: How many is too many?

Stand in front of a statue of Elvis (rather than just a photo of the actual statue).

Wrestle for a geocache in a mudpit (rather than a picture of a mud pit).

Go skydiving (rather than a picture of a plane).

These are ideas only, but may help you on the way.

Locationless changes and Jigsaw Cache Type

Hi All. This morning we updated the site and the database to cater for the updates to locationless caches and a new type called a Jigsaw cache. https://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20326 There is a small risk that some functions may have been missed in the update, so if you notice any...

Re: How many is too many?

There's nothing I need help with at the moment. I can address the jigsaws in bulk and will do the locationless as time permits.

Re: How many is too many?

The changes will be implemented this week. New locationless caches must be listed in line with the wiki guidelines for a locationless cache. https://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/Locationless_cache Existing locationless caches will be reviewed on a one-by-one basis and if the locationless geocache is ...

Re: Cache Owner Log Administration

Thanks for all the feedback. There is an overwhelming position that the status quo should be retained. This, alas, puts deletion of logs on to the admins so we will need to identify how we can have someone take on that role. There is, however, a desire to be able to delete "inadvertent" duplicate fi...

Re: My Query limits

If you're going on a trip, then a route is the best way to trace your route then find the caches along it.

We no longer run a downloadable stats pack. Nowadays we have over 40,000 caches and 700,000 logs for GCA caches. We can't afford that bandwidth and more.

Re: Locationless own-log etiquette

My own opinion that when you hide a cache you shouldn't log a find against it because you know where it is. An exception is a moveable which can end up anywhere and as you no longer know where it is when you look for it, it's OK to log you own. Same for a locationless cache. You have found it in a n...

Re: How many is too many?

I am not disputing that GA0001 is a special cache BUT Wiki says:- A Locationless cache listing must require the finder to locate an object or perform a task in the real world, collect the co-ordinates and log the find with accompanying photographic evidence. Who decides what is special cache and th...

Re: Cache Owner Log Administration

Don't assume the site admins will be in a position or want to be in a position to do anything. There is only one admin that has access to delete logs. I don't want to be in a position where it's all put on one person or even a small group of people. Interest waxes and wanes and when all the admins s...

Re: Cache Owner Log Administration

In terms of images being needed - I'm in favour of the site just not accepting a found it log for a cache that needs a photo, if a photo isn't added at submission.... We cannot easily do that. We have an open API which would need to be changed. At the moment the log is created and the log ID is gen...

Re: Cache Owner Log Administration

I think cache owners should be able to delete and modify the type of log - for a defined set of reasons - basically what you have mentioned - spoilers/offensive material/haven't met obligations. How (if needed) is that enforced? I could click "Deleted because spoilers" when in reality it's a "tit f...

Cache Owner Log Administration

Geocaching Australia has never allowed cache owners to change any logs on their caches. So a cacher could log a find (not having found the cache) and the owner can do nothing except ask the finder to delete their log. They could log a note with a spoiler in the text. Or a DNF. Or any other log that ...

Re: (dragonZone) Moveables being scored for each find by the same geocacher

The change has been implemented.

You will only receive points for the first time you find a geocache after you started playing dZ. This extends to Karma and the hider will only be rewarded Karma points the first time a geocacher makes the find.
