I do find it interesting that the WAP site does not require a login, though. It is too bad that you can't directly link to a cache using a url that would fit inside an SMS, as this should still be within what would be considered acceptable by GC. Unfortunately any passed parameters are likely to gro...

Ah, so optus has added an email to SMS gateway. Good for them :)

Note that I added the URL to POST for logging in and redirecting to a cache listing. It should be worth a try.

This doesn't go get the coordinates, but it does give me a name, bearing, distance, and a link that I can click on to launch my browser: #!/usr/bin/perl use LWP::Simple; use URI::Escape; $destination = "6141066****"; $source="6141066****"; $apiid="*******"; $username="********"; $password="********"...

Premium members can set up email alerts here: http://www.geocaching.com/notify/ In the USA, most carriers have free email to SMS gateways which people use for this purpose. Over here, you will need to roll your own. I personally use the Clickatell SMS API behind a perl script on my mail server, at a...

There is some talk about shutting down public access to the observation areas at BNE, with all the latest laser pointer hubbub. I hope it doesn't come to that. BNE has "Smithy" GCTEW4, "Looking Up" GCGT1P (listed as a micro but it is a small). There are more in the area, but they aren't quick dashes...

Don't worry too much, GC is currently having some issues. For example, every cache I check is coming back with with coordinates of N/S ? ??.??? W/E ??? ??.???. Earlier the site was unavailable.

No luck yet on getting the new version of the N95, as the shipping date is anticipated to be several weeks yet. I don't have a price yet either

Hopefully when it does ship I can get them to send me one for testing purposes.

A magpie dismantled my plastic rain gauge a few months ago just for kicks, so I wouldn't doubt if they muggle the occasional cache :P He removed a 4x5 cm chunk of 4mm thick HDPE from the corner of it, which must have been no small task.

GE-Path for Google Earth

Have you ever been planning cache placement and wanted to see what areas are available for you to squeeze in a waypoint or two for your multi? I use Google Earth for some of my cache planning, and until now have been manually measuring the distance from nearby caches. I ran into this tool tonight wh...

Yeah, you guessed it :) Normally I avoid the 2x, but I wasn't getting enough of the frame without it. Fortunately by stopping it down to f/8 I was able to keep it fairly sharp.
