Easiest way is to download the mapsource version (.exe) from here:

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

If you haven't found it already, check out the Oregon Wiki here:

All you need to know about the Oregon or Dakota, and then some...

Re: Older Garmin maps on new Dakota/Oregon

I've got Topo Australia, Shonkymaps, and Open Street Maps installed on my Dakota, and find myself using Open Street Maps 95% of the time. Pretty much the only time I use Topo Australia is if I want to use the auto routing function. The OSM maps are routable, but are a bit buggy and Topo Aus does a m...

Re: Noob needs a little help

You don't need anything to open them. In fact, they can't (easily) be opened or viewed on a PC. You just drag the .img file untouched on to the GPS or the memory card in to the \Garmin folder. If you want to view the maps on a PC you need to install Mapsource then download and install the "mapsource...

Re: Noob needs a little help

You don't need to purchase a Garmin map. The OSM map together with Contours Australia is comparable to Garmin's Topo Australia. (OSM is more detailed in a lot of areas, especially walking trails near major cities.) You only need Mapsource if you want to view the OSM maps offline on your computer. To...

Re: Noob needs a little help

caughtatwork's link is the best source for easy to install OSM maps, or http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php if you want more than just one state. Installing on an Oregon is as easy as it gets. Just copy the supplied .img file in to the \Garmin directory on either the device or the memory card. I ...

Re: Newbie question : GPSr from America?

Is it really worth it?
The Groundspeak price seems to be AU$550ish plus shipping but you can get them locally for $599. I don't know what shipping costs, but at best I could see you only saving $20 or $30.

2.50 for the Dakota was released yesterday (along with 3.50 for the Oregon). I updated my new Dakota to 2.50 yesterday and am really liking the new dashboard.

Re: Can't unlock maps

With the current firmware on the Oregon and Dakota at least, you can now use whatever name you want on the SD card. On my Dakota's SD card I've got TopoAus.img, OSM.img ContoursV2.img and Shonky.img
Makes it much easier to remember which is which!

Re: Geocaching Live Software

Just worked out how to get Nearmap Aerial photos working. Use http://www.nearmap.com/kh/v=49&x=[X]&y=[Y]&z=[INVZ] for the server. Noticeably better than Google Satellite even on my small 6110 screen. Assume it would be a huge improvement on a phone with a bigger screen edit: Sorry...can't work out h...

Re: Geocaching Live Software

Thanks for trying anyway. I did quite a bit of looking around myself and also came up with nought. It's not the first time the whole OSM Cyclemap thing has had me stumped. I tried a while ago to get the cycle map in to Garmin Mobile XT on my phone but struck out with that too. I'm surprised the cycl...

Re: Geocaching Live Software

Does anyone know the Server URL for the Open Street Maps Cyclemap? The wiki has Mapnik and Osmarender, but not Cyclemap. This would be handy as it shows contour lines as well.
