Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update
Just updating from our Mega organising committee meeting in Dunedin today. We're now within 30 registrations of intent to hitting 500 - we're at 470. We are hopeful that we will have the Mega officially listed very soon (for those that are holding off) - but don't let that stop you registering your ...

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update
Keep the registrations of interest coming in! The sooner we get close to 500, the sooner we'll be able to get a MEGA listing up. We've hit 150 in just 12 hours, and nearly half of those are Australian :) We're also listening the the questions submitted with the registration of interest, and this is ...

Re: Potential NZ MEGA Event 2012 - is there sufficient interest?
As Moneydork said, we've been thinking about this for a while. I'm very keen to hear about preferences towards having this event in the North Island vs South Island. In our discussions, the two main locations we'd settled on initially were Auckland and Christchurch - primarily because they were the ...

Re: how to get GSAK on mac
Works fine under VMWare Fusion for me - in fact GSAK and a couple of Garmin apps are about the only Windows apps I run these days

Re: Suggestion: display o-ordinate format alternatives
Correction - that is in fact dd mm.mmm - they are decimal minutes (mm.mmm). No seconds are harmed in the production of geocaching coordinatesWazzaAndWenches wrote:Why would anyone want to use that when the world revolves around dd mm.sss caching?

Re: Suggestion: display o-ordinate format alternatives
You should be able to use GDAL to transform coords from a massive variety of options. Good open source GIS goodness - all you need to know is the EPSG codes
This would also be scaleable to support other projection/coordinate systems. More importantly, no math skills required!

Re: Garmin Birdseye
As one of the people that got slapped over the wrist for using the naughty hack word, let me try to bring this kinda back on topic. What I think would be useful, is seeing if there is a way to convert free imagery into tiles using the same mechanism that provides BirdsEye. Whilst I haven't poked aro...

Re: Mystery / Puzzle Caches over Multi's
Unfortunately, multis and unknown caches are not mutually exclusive cache types. Whilst there are clear examples that are multi (e.g. go to listed coords, find waypoint 35mm, then find final) and unknown (the good old solve the sudoku (using an) online (tool) and turn it into a trad), there are quit...

Re: Garmin BaseCamp
Matt - have just had another play with it, and performance seems a little improved now I've tweaked a couple of the settings. The 3D navigation was irritating me, so I disabled that and went to flat 2D and not only is it easier to navigate, but also faster. Also went into settings and upped the tile...

Re: Garmin BaseCamp
Running on OS X 10.6.3 - downloaded Basecamp 3.0.1 last night. Also updated GPS to latest unit software. Hadn't noticed too much lag, but of course the map I was using didn't have a Digital Elevation Model either. It did seem rather slow downloading tiles, but display didn't seem too bad. Of course ...

Re: Garmin Birdseye
It looks like you can download as much as you want - the bigger issue is that all downloaded images are likely to be encrypted so that they can only be used on the unit with the serial number that purchased the subscription. The bigger hack would be breaking that encryption. Note - BirdsEye is only ...
