My First Find

The Burning Foothills (by Jedda)

11th June 2006
My first Cache! Found with SarahDazz (Sarah). Datum in my GPSr was wrong so clues helped. Was around 200m away from where we were heading. TNLN.

I was using AGD or something. After sorting that out, caching became so much more rewarding!

RE: POI files off the internet

Almost all the POI files I've foudn on the internet (the free ones anyway) are poor quality AS mentioned before, they don't have up-to-date locations of places and the co-ordinates are rarely close to the actual location. In some circumstances I am finding POI locations over 1km from where they actu...

Not sure if this was the intention, but I thought the request was for attributes for GCA caches like what they have on GC, you know, those little icons that give you instant information about the caches and areas they are located, like whether there is parking available, whether you need to use stea...

Think there was a problem here earlier, but we still can't have plots by state:

Apparently not for me though - just tried again: This page is currently offline while we re-tune the database.

I take it the cache editing pages are not back up then? Just tried to update the co-ords of one of my locationless caches (http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga0643) but no go. No rush, love your work.

Can you create a separate list for moveable / locationless caches in the updates etc.?

I'm having trouble keeping up moving one of my locationless ones, it moved 4 times in a week, and I had to keep figuring out which state it was in.

Google Earth Layer fine tuning

Any chance we can fine tune the GCA Google Earth Layer to allow you to display caches by type?

Eg: only traditional caches; all cache types; show no archived caches etc.

It can get a bit messy in some areas especially with years of archived caches showing up.

?

Locationless Cache Co-ordinates

Hi All, have a question about the co-ordinates of locationless caches as they appear on the cache page. I have a locationless cache called: "Marking many Milestones!" link here: http://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga0643 Now, I have noticed that up until recently the cache co-ordinates automatically chan...

I'd never heard of this virtual logging of trackables before. I was under the impression (in general terms) that you should not be the person to move a trackable item when you were the person that dropped it into a cache (virtually or otherwise). It makes no mention of these things in the trackables...

You could limit it to those who have found over 50 or 100 caches and have hidden 5 or more for example. Just an idea to get some of the more experienced gurus out there.

I can imagine :) Is it possible for someone to manually change the 2330 search result from Wylies Flat to Singleton at least? That' at least be almost the geographical centre of the area and the place where people would expect their search to find.

SUBYDAZZ, if you are after a quick look for your closest unfound caches, try using the hitlist. First check in your forum profile that you have put in home coords. Then from the GCA homepage go My > Account and select Hitlist under caches. Rightclick and you can save it as a bookmark for easy acces...

Nice work onteh upgrade, just thought I'd add another spanner. I'm having some search problems? When I put in my postcode, the site seems to think that it is located 40km further away than it was previously, so caches that were 40km away (as the crow flies) are now the closest, and ones that were cl...
