Re: Adding screen dumps to caching page.

I think what you want to do is to get your screen grab, and then save it as a jpg. This effectively turns your screen dump into a "photo". You now write your log, and then use the "add photo" or "add gallery" option after completing your log (I can't remember exactly, but the point is, you have to u...

Re: GeosportZ 2012 - Questions and Clarifications

The game does not care whether non-game members find a cache they have already found. So if they are willing to log a 2nd find against the cache (otherwise how can I prove they were there with you), then that's cool. Would a photo with the GeosportZ competitor's log suffice as proof of the 4x4ness ...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

Is it possible to separate out the OSM maps discussion into a new thread? I don't read this thread normally (I already have a Garmin handheld GPS :) ) but accidentally clicked on it this morning to discover an interesting discussion about the maps which might be useful for a broader audience.

Re: GeosportZ 2012 - Questions and Clarifications

For the benefit of those needing to calculate 20L in the field, the following may be useful (geocaching-oriented rule-of-thumb-based revision of high school measurement topics). If the cache is a rectangular prism (i.e., a "box shape"), you work out the volume by calculating length x breadth x heigh...

Re: GeosportZ 2012 - Questions and Clarifications

OK, maybe that wasn't a good hint. 4 years ago during the same game, I found a cache (well I had a cache handed to me) that met one of the requirements that will be the same as this year. The further south you go, the more you are going to hate me. A certain Tasmanian (now) will know what I'm talki...

Re: and one more makes 10,000

I spot gnomes and frogs, and, of course, the trigs. I am bemused by the polynomial fit, though (especially for 2002-2006)! Great work by all concerned -- hiders and finders and movers and shakers (and repairers of shakers (thinking of some damaged gnomes!)) --, but especially you and CraigRa...

Re: iPhone replacement for c:geo

Excellent answer SamCarter.. I would just add that you can create a direct link to GCA by adding a bookmark to "geocaching.com.au/my/query" in the 'Data' screen. I just did it and bulk downloaded caches (in GPX format) from one of my GCA queries. The 'Data' screen in geosphere is just a browser whe...

Re: iPhone replacement for c:geo

The short answer to your Adelaide-Melbourne question (from my point-of-view anyway) is to make a "caches along a route" query and download that into your phone. You then don't have to worry about data coverage. Having said that, if you realised you'd headed off without putting the results of your qu...

Re: iPhone replacement for c:geo

There are two ways you can use it. If you have a data plan then you can ask it to find "caches near me" and it will access the gc site and essentially it does the standard "search on coordinates" using you location. You can then click on a cache name in the list and see the cache description (just a...

Re: How accurate is the main map?

The map on the GCA site will show caches from both (there is a limit to how many are shown depending on how far out you have zoomed). The GC ones are in red, the GCA ones are in blue, and they will change colour when you log that you have found them (or if you log a DNF (did not find)). If you click...

Re: Groundspeak "listing-service exclusivity on Mega-Events"

Ah, I'd misread the latest caughtatwork proposal (it mentioned the Mega Events while discussing not listing GC caches, and I'd interpreted this as "not listing GC Mega events only" when in fact I now see it meant "not listing GC caches at all" - my confusion). I would be sad about this, but I see th...

Re: Groundspeak "listing-service exclusivity on Mega-Events"

Regarding the daily emailer, others have suggested removing mega-event info only and leaving other GC content, to maintain usefulness. At the risk of opening a new can of worms, it is not unheard-of for non-Mega events to be sponsored. Therefore, to avoid potential issues in future I suggest removi...
