Re: Archiving my cache

This thread has developed into a thought-provoking one RE:GCA caches. Could it be split from the OT with an appropriate heading, please? :)

The function should be available at Menu>Menu>Setup>Welcome. Scroll *all* the way down (or up) on the Setup page. :gnome

Re: BIT Caches (aka QR Code Caches)

Is collecting ecodes, geocaching?

It may be a neat 'new' tech/hobby, but is it a new cache type? No. :|

Re: Google Directions - KML File

Hi. Not sure about G.Maps but in G.Earth you can make a New Path, right-click it in the list and Save Place As (to KMZ or KML). :)

Re: Dakota 20 Trouble

Hi. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Garmin 12. :!:
Newer models make (caching) life easier though, with so many bells and whistles and extra user-friendly 'stuff'.
Cheers. :)

Re: Dakota 20 Trouble

Maybe update to the latest firmware/software for the Dakota 20, via PC and WebUpdater utility. WebUpdater should be available to download from the Garmin site.

If still no good and you think the Dakota 20 touch screen is faulty, I'd contact the retailer or Garmin.

Re: OpenStreetMaps now useless in a lot of areas.

Hi. My immediate area is OK but some neighbouring estates look a bit dodgy. Was just going to ask what are the criteria for exclusion of map data, but I see you've answered. Maybe before a certain date, the data is allowed to stay? :|

Re: Ghosts of caches past on Nuvi maps

User files may also be stored in the internal memory (non-user memory).

To remove 'ghosts' and other user data, I reset the nuvi (with caution) to factory settings occasionally. Just have to re-enter some preferences and disable a map or two afterwards.

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

Hi. For OSM maps used with Garmin software on PC, I do use the installer for Windows, from Lambertus. To simply plonk a OSM(Australia) map/s on my GPSmap62S, I download one two or more states to PC, from osmaustralia, then Copy&Paste to 1. GPSr (to the Garmin folder where the other IMG maps are), or...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

Hi. It'll depend somewhat which model Garmin GPSr you use. Modern era of Garmin handhands and Nuvi model# above 1000 should* be straight forward Copy&Paste from PC to a preferably new SD or microSD. * http://www.osmaustralia.org/howto.php is probably as good a meathod as any (with regard to IMG maps...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?

All of Australia on one SD or microSD might be a challenge, but for a contour overlay, Dooghan's maps at lizarddrinking.net are good.
