Re: GCA listings of caches in areas where geocaching is banned

Setting aside the unfortunately fact that these areas exist, it may be worth looking at it from the finders point of view. When I go geocaching in bush (mostly Victoria to date fortunately where this aspect is still unclear) I don't take a map showing boundaries of parks etc, I just follow that litt...

Re: Moveable Cache Race

I'm wondering if it is possible to highlight the existence of these caches somehow, perhaps on the daily email? Most of the moves, some quite heroic, have been made by cachers playing the game. This is not really surprising of course, but I wonder if it is due in part to the majority of GCA members ...

Re: Scouting Cachers

Our allocated arrival time is 1200. I expect our first duty will be to find Geoson and maybe join him or the troop (422) for lunch, so we could probably not make it earlier than 1300. A late or flexible event time would suit us.

Re: Scouting Cachers

I wonder if by setting up the GCA Event Cache - GA1702 for the Jamboree that will give away which lanky cacher is being referred to. As always, the fun part of the Jamboree events is seeing a number of cachers identified in person, and finding out that there's quite an overlap with Scouting! Note t...

Re: Scouting Cachers

We will be there on Visiting day (9/1/10) too, to visit Geoson/Scout. We put our registration in a bit late, but we still got accepted, so it may not be too late, especially if you have a son or daughter going. I'll wear my Geocaching cap and see if anyone says hello. Might be fun to find a cache or...

Re: Stats showing caches as archived

He did. We service Guam as a benefit to the Guam geocaching community. http://geocaching.com.au/caches/available/gu/ Fascinating place that. I spent a few weeks there many years ago working for an Australian building company. Lots of US expats and a few Aussies too there then, + loads of Japanese t...

Re: Garmin compass calibration

As has been mentioned in other threads, it is a continual problem with some Garmin receivers. The 60CSx for instance. Otherwise a great receiver, but the compass is really infuriating. I thought this might be less of a problem with the newer models with the 3G compass since not holding it level all ...

Re: Nearmap rival to Google Earth?

In our neck of the woods in Melbourne, the resolution appears to be a stunning 1-2cm. Very impressive.

In fact, the house next to us is undergoing renovation, and images taken on 12/10, 6/11 and 13/11 show the construction of the roof in various stages. Fascinating.

Re: Moveable Cache Race

The waypoint ID is the cache ID. e.g. GA1234 That links the game back to GCA to get the data. Thanks caughtatwork. Our cache is ready to go now. Perhaps that button should say "Add" or something similar, instead of "Create"? BTW - Are the 5 prizes for "random cachers who move a game piece", availab...

Re: Moveable Cache Race

Sounds like good fun. We'll get a cache ready.

I clicked on the create button experimentally and it asked me for a "Waypoint ID". Is this the name of the cache? What form should it take?

Thanks

Re: TrigPointing

There's no picture on the log so I can't tell, but as far as I'm concerned, if you got to the structure and have taken said picture with GPS or you in the picture, then you've found the TP and you're good to go. Post your picture to the log and be happy that you've found the TP. The TP at the top o...
