Re: Beat speeding fines with GPS
Thanks for this insight, but aren't the manufacturers of the car speedo misleading the driver. Wouldn't it be better to have the correct speed not a higher speed than being driven. This is irritating. As a driver i want to know the correct speed. This is just as irritating as people who set their w...

Re: Beat speeding fines with GPS
I've noticed while caching in both our vehicles (Holden Viva & Toyota Hilux) that the GPSr speed is always about 3-4 kph lower than the speedo reading on the car when travelling at roughly 110kph. I have to do a touch under 115kph in my Hilux for the GPS60 to register 110kph. I've wondered about th...

Re: Beat speeding fines with GPS
They then demonstrate the inaccuracy of GPS by driving through a CBD canyon of highrise buildings. Something to bear in mind however, is that a GPS receiver does not rely solely on positions and time for calculation of speed (maybe not at all, but I'm not sure of that), but rather utilises t...

Re: phone
If you are with Three there is a secret. But require some technical knowledge. If you send a email to your three email account with the X-Priority changed to urgent then three will send a SMS to tell you that a urgent email has arrived. Allowing you to even get a SMS about a cache (or anything else...

Re: phone
I do that on my N95. Set it up for email as Damo says. I created a special gmail account for the purpose so the only thing that gets sent to the account are the alerts. Uses about 5kb of data each time it checks for mail. As a result, my Telstra phone bill is about 15 pages long, with mostly $0.00 d...

Re: Oz Mega Wagga Wagga Snapshots.
That's great Farmers 5. I don't suppose there is a high res version of the group photo that appeared in the local paper available? A version could be uploaded from the Advertiser site, but the resolution was poor. Perhaps it would need to be purchased? The newpapers are pretty smart these days and ...

Re: GCA Cache Map
There doesn't seem to be an easy way of spotting GCA hides amongst all the secondary hides. Though I have worked out that we can follow the Google Map link at the top of the View GCA caches page. Thanks! Actually I've thought the same thing many times. Setting up a query is Ok I guess, but it's not...

Re: Dual Cache Listing on GCA and GC.
I did advertise the GCA cache on the GC cache page, but the UMP made me remove it! You can always leave some sort of calling card or something taped to the inside of your cache........directing cachers who have found the GC one, to have a go at the GCA one nearby. :-$ Hmm, maybe that's what I did :...

Re: Dual Cache Listing on GCA and GC.
Our 10th anniversary GCA cache is accompanied by a GC cache not too far away in the hope of increasing patronage to the former. We had a nice location in mind for a couple of caches for some time and I initially considered, and would have preferred, placing two GCA caches. However, the location is f...

Re: Happy Anniversary - The Offical Congratulations Thread
Happy Anniversary GCA and Geocaching in Australia. Except perhaps for getting married and having kids, nothing we have done in recent years has had such a profound effect on our lifestyle as geocaching. Meeting other cachers is a big part of this as evidenced by the recent Mega and other smaller eve...

Re: Picture Upload
That is only the thumbnail of the image, not the full image I'll have a quick look and we'll have you on the right track Thanks CraigRat - Actually, I see what I'm doing. I'm extracting the URL by looking at the thumbnail rather than displaying the image and then looking at the properties. Ie I'm g...

Re: Picture Upload
The last one I tried was 400 w x 300 h. Actually, it's being put in a "thumbs" subdirectory. Is that significant?CraigRat wrote:It constricts by width OR height, what height is the image you are uploading?

Picture Upload
When I upload a picture to a GCA (cache) gallery, it is being re-sized to 150 pixels wide. Even if I pre-scale it to about 400 pixels wide, it's still being massively resized on the upload. There appears to be many images larger than this hosted by the gallery. Is this the limit or am I doing someth...
