Re: GSAK website

It appears to be temporary. The server must be stretched at times.

GSAK website

Twice in the past 24 hours I've had trouble connecting to the GSAK website and forum. Isitdown.com has said on both occasions the server isn't responding. Are having having a similar problem?

Re: Geotalk podcast Episode 93 - New Zealand's Mega Event

Thank you for the warm feedback regarding this episode. I enjoyed listening back to it too.

I'm glad I recorded the speeches from Sunday night. Listening to it takes me back to the hall.

This isn't a cache for "I got done speeding while out caching".

Re: Visit Hobart, Melbourne, Darwin, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane

A quick bit of background. A number of Aussie geocachers met Vrso in Dunedin at the Mega Event. He is a GC.com reviewer in Europe with the mad plan of finding a cache in each Australian state/territory. If he does it (which I think he will) he'll probably set a record for doing it in the shortest ti...

Re: Creating field notes from GSAK

I already have about 30 odd logs in the field notes on gc.com. It's a bit messy. Plus, I'm not confident with the GSAK publish logs setting. I have already mucked up the database once and lost a lot of info (which took a while to recollect).

Creating field notes from GSAK

Due to a lack of preparation and flat batteries, I ended up with a messy collection of geocache finds on multiple devices and scraps of paper. I've used GSAK to mark those caches as 'found'. Is it possible to export the found geocaches as a field note text file that I can them upload into geocaching...

Re: OpenStreetMaps now useless in a lot of areas.

A lot of work has gone into rebuilding the map. A lot of it through http://rebuild.poole.ch/ Unfortunately, the detailed stuff (street names for example) will take some time. If you use OSM I suggest you take a bit of time to get your hands dirty and contribute. Any amount of help is useful. I suspe...

Worth checking this out. http://rebuild.poole.ch/

It's part of an effort to redraw the data. I've rebuilt St Clair and Erskine Park (roughly)

What I thought. But very tempting. At least we have the satellite data to work off. I think it will back to normal by the end of the year.

Re: OpenStreetMaps now useless in a lot of areas.

Added some missing streets last night and was amazed at how quickly they were added to the rendered map (overnight). I've noticed that the OpenCycleMaps and Mapquest maps still have the pre-redaction data. I presume they update on a less regular basis - I presume Mapquest would have some level of QA...

If you've contributed in the past, you can log into your account, click on your name (which takes you to your profile page) and see if you've agreed to the new licensing terms. For example, mine reads "Contributor terms: Accepted about 1 year ago " As you can see, this has been in the works for a wh...

Re: OpenStreetMaps now useless in a lot of areas.

Damn. I updated my handheld last week, not knowing what was going on. Thought it was strange the routing was taking me all over Sydney when all I wanted was to get from North Ryde to Parramatta. It appears I did accept it a year ago, but someone it my area, so there are huge chunks missing. Hmm. Thi...
