Re: Oddball 'communities'

Thanks heaps for all these ideas - they've been useful to feed into the mix. Keep 'em coming... :D Also going to chase up the whole roller derby phenomenon possibly - that's a very strikingly different community. Still very keen for a grey nomad though. I know we have some amongst us on this site - ...

Were they all placed by the cache owner or is that some pre-existing thing?

Re: Oddball 'communities'

A new, basically manufactured, community is forming around the Google game Ingress (ingress.com) There are two factions in the game, and there's already derogatory slang for the "other" team, and some fairly interesting real-world interactions going on. You'd need to get involved to see who's activ...

Oddball 'communities'

This is a slightly off-cache topic, but seeking the help of the members of this rather oddball community of geocachers, in trying to find out some other oddball communities... Background: I'm responsible (amongst other things) for pulling together our staff conference. We are playing with the idea o...

Irritating cache ideas....

Anyone up for hiding a mischievous cache with just a hint of haystack? http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/the-lock-of-love-secures-romance-20130716-2q14g.html Thankfully the proximity rule keeps us safe from any maliciousness :D Otherwise it'd be sorely tempting! Anyone else with cache ideas that are...

Re: Australian Power Trails

A little thought on making a good powertrail (Hmm... I just wrote 'good' and 'powertrail' in the same sentence :-$ ) If you're going to put one out, first build it, test it, get it all sorted, and THEN launch it. There's one near me which has been released in dribs and drabs over the last few months...

Re: Munzees!

I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere or on the Munzee forum or what, but what's the deal with the massive saturation of Munzees in some small (often rather pointless) pockets? Ringwood in Melbourne in particular has these clusters that are massively overpopulated with munzees, which see...

Re: Offline Andriod Maps

Does anyone have a good Andriod app that they use for offline routable maps? I know that Tom Tom has such a app. I have always used Garmin and was therefore hoping to use their app, however it does not seem to exist. I was hoping that someone would know of an app that you can upload a GPX file as P...

Re: an 'invisible' garmin....

Thanks for those suggestions and offers - I'll give it a shot, but I'm not holding out much hope. It's been a bit fussy for a while now with taking forever to get sat lock, inaccurate coordinates, and so on. So after 5 years I'm wondering if it has started to be suffering a bit of age-related declin...

Re: Movable cache

Oh, excuse my last post - I just went and looked more thoroughly and realised you DID find a moveable cache. Silly me. Apologies. In that case, it's a simple matter of hiding it in a suitable location (perhaps a bit better hidden this time! :) ) and then putting the new coordinates of that lo...

Re: Movable cache

Hi, The Mr found a movable cache this morning on his walk and we want to help it on its journey. Just wondering what the etiquette is. The cache contains a logbook, with obvious use, and also some toys. Do we add a toy before we hide it again? Are there rules for hiding it? I can see that gc is lik...

Re: an 'invisible' garmin....

Well, last variable to try... Find someone with a GPS60 to plug into your PC to see if that connects. It probably will, but it'd be interesting if it didn't... Haven't got anyone on hand who can help me with that, but a friend's Dakota works fine... Very odd. I'm starting to wonder if it is just a ...

Re: an 'invisible' garmin....

I have had trouble before with getting things to be recognised as being plugged in via USB. Usually they are external harddrives but I remember that I had to go into a USB list on the computer and delete the entry for the device. Then when I plugged it in again, it did the whole autodetect and laun...

Re: an 'invisible' garmin....

Well, test 2. Work computer, different USB cable (and it's worked here in the past....) - Nothing. No detection trying to send it a cache via the GC.com website. As with my home PC, when I look up "devices and printers" it shows up as an icon with 'Garmin USB GPS', so it's detected that much, but no...
