Re: Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania

We tend to use credit cards for everything - even a $2 item. First choice is American Express and then Visa. We pay them off each month. Are there any day to day items that you can think of where we will not be able to use a credit card? We're trying to figure out how much AU cash we should pull fro...

Re: Can't unlock maps

The rest of the story. They sent a replacement card. I tried it in my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx, a friends Garmin eTrex Legend HCx and a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. All three returned the message "Can't unlock maps". I contacted the company and requested a refund. I returned the map card and have already rece...

Re: Filtering caches for the trip

On one of my other postings Caughatwork posted a link so I could download the GCA caches. I'm going to merge them with my regular query for Tasmania. I'll have between 500 to a 1000 caches loaded in my GPS with all their descriptions and logs in my PDA. The idea is that where ever we are I can look ...

Filtering caches for the trip

Normally when we're on a trip we filter out caches that haven't been found in the last thirty days. We find that this keeps us from spending time looking for a cache that might actually be missing. Someone mentioned in another thread that this might be too strict of a filter for Tasmania since some ...

Re: Can't unlock maps

That's what I understood when I bought the card. Just place it in my GPS and I was ready to go. What I don't understand is that they say it worked on their GPS. "Hello, We received and tested your card, Card is working with our GPS units (we tested on few) Have you try copying card into another SD c...

Re: Can't unlock maps

I just received an email from the company that I purchased the preloaded map card from. They say that they tried it in a number of different Garmins and it works. As a courtesy they are sending me another card. It really has me curious as to why it would work in their GPS and not mine. We’ll wait an...

Re: Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania

Looks like you might need to pack an extra jacket according to this The current weather here in the high desert of Nevada is 2 degrees with rain/snow. The low tonight is going to be -3 degrees. I have a feeling that I'll be shoveling snow tomorrow morning. Cold we don't mind. It is the rain we don'...

Re: Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania

I wasn't aware that there was a separate set of caches for Australia. Whole new world out there. Now you're testing me to see if I want the caches for the scenery or for the numbers

Is there a way to merge the GCA finds with my GC finds so my GC stats reflect my actual finds?

Re: Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania

Thanks for the reply. Think we'll go for the Tasmanian Devil Park at Taranna since we will be heading in that direction one day for sure. American Express is our first choice with Visa being second. They both have good paybacks. We charge everything we can and pay them off each month. You may drive ...

Re: Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania

More questions from a couple of geocaching tourists: Which zoo, nature park, etc. would be recommended to see a Tasmanian Devil and a Platypus? Is American Express widely accepted? My wife is talking of driving up to Launceston - I said if we do I have to visit the James Boag's Preminum Brewery to c...

Can't unlock maps

I just received a preloaded card containing City Navigator Australia NT 2009 and City Navigator New Zealand NT 2009. When I place the card in my eTrex Vista HCx and turn on the power I receive "Can't unlock maps (enter)". Looking at the card I have one folder - garmin In that folder there are two fi...

Re: Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania

Almost six months to the day since I last posted. All the in between trips are done and now it is time to start concentrating on our Tasmanian trip. We will be at Seven Mile Beach for ten days, arriving Saturday, February 20 and leaving Tuesday, March 2. Lots of things we want to do and see but the ...

Thanks for the friendly replies. I just did a query using 11.265 Kilometre as the center and see that there are over 300 caches just within a 30 kilometer radius. I have ten months and a lot of puzzles to solve. This is going to be fun.
