Re: We're coming!

We had a great 2 weeks in AU. Much of our good time was due to connections we had made with cachers. Thanks for your downunder hospitality, both online and in person. Even the Oz muggles were welcoming! And if any of you find you'll be in the north central United States, get in touch. We also enjoye...

Re: We're coming!

We'll be at the Menzies Hotel in Sydney, near Circular Quay, Dec 7 - 13. Apparently they charge quite a bit for Wifi access, and do not have online access wired into the rooms (or perhaps do, but for additional fees). We are used to having Wifi all over the place. Anybody have any knowledge of place...

Re: We're coming!

67 degree F water temps? Sounds terrific. Our little lake in Wisconsin USA has been frozen over for almost 2 weeks! Our daughter has been to the beach in Perth several times, and she is enjoying the wonderful weather. We should have room to haul several trackables from the Manly Christmas event back...

Re: We're coming!

Thanks, update appreciated!

We are planning on a tourist bus excursion, a 'hop-on-hop-off' bus trip. No details yet, that's coming, but beautiful stops at various points of the Blue Mts is promised!

Re: We're coming!

We are signed up to attend the 11-12-13 event in Manly. We'll probably take the ferry over and spend a good deal of the day caching, shopping, exploring, etc. The tourist websites make everything sound wonderful, and we are sure much of it is. But we are interested in the perspectives of our local O...

Re: School Days...

It is often said by educators in the USA - there are 3 good reasons for going into a teaching career - June, July, and August! For working families with young children, summer vacation is time to line up child care, either private 'babysitters' or daycare centers. This is not always easy or economic...

School Days...

As a retired teacher, I am curious as to how schooling works in AU? Our kids in Wisconsin, USA typically attend Monday - Friday, September - May for 180 days total, with around 10 days off for Christmas, a few days off for Thanksgiving (late Nov) and Easter, plus a few scattered days off. Sometimes ...

Re: The fires

We are consulting with a travel agent who hails from N. Zealand and spends time every year in Sydney. She is suggesting we go out to Katoomba. She says all the fires will be out by the end of this week, the danger is over... The fire maps seems to show the Katoomba area as unaffected. What is the lo...

Re: We're coming!

We have our lodging arrangements made for Perth. We will be able to extend Beckster's stay in the apartment provided by her company for her worktime. The price will be reasonable, the location good, and the accomodations acceptable. Not luxurious, but about all we'll do is sleep there. It will be fi...

Re: The fires

Thanks for all the info. We've had similar fire situations in the western & southwestern USA recently. Scary stuff, and heartwrenching for those involved. Just last night Gram was looking at things to do in the Sydney area, and said she thought the Blue Mountains looked like a good place to visit......

Re: We're coming!

Hello, again - Our Yank daughter has been in Perth for a few days now and is discovering some more glitches we need advice on. She got the TV thing mostly conquered, thanks for the suggestions that helped. Now... (1) Her Garmin Nuvi she brought from the States has only US maps and does not help. Not...

Re: We're coming!

Our daughter Beckster is in Perth for about 24 hours now, has moved into her efficiency apartment, and drove for the first time. Everything is the opposite of what we are used to in the USA - left side of the road, steering wheel on the right side of the car, wipers and turn signals reversed, rounda...

Re: Where are we all from??? (introduce yourself) parts 1&2

Hello - We are Chris and Jim, caching as Gram&Gramps since late 2003. We live in Wisconsin in the north central USA. Our daughter is currently in Perth on a short-term work assignment. We will be coming to AU in late November for a visit, spending a week in Perth and then another week in Sydney. See...
