Re: Phones & GPS

Like a few here, I started out with the paper printouts and no GPSr. It didn't take long to get tied of that so I bought a Garmin eTrex, yet I still insisted on using printouts and finding GZ by following the coord numbers as they increased and decreased! Crazy I know... Then I bought a Garmin Dakot...

Re: Pokemon Go

I downloaded the P-go app, and forget about it, then I noticed the app was gone, it seems my 17 year old son decided it was lame and removed it!

Re: CCCC: Cache Construction Centre of Competence

I just went out and bought a 160 page A4 book of 'Nu world Tough Paper' from Officeworks. It looks and feels great, and it is tree and water free in its manufacture! It is made from calcium carbonate and a small amount of polyethylene. At just over 4 cents a sheet it sure beats Rite in the Rain on p...

Re: Powertrails

I would consider it a PT when there is say over twenty + caches placed along an easy route and spaced close together, ie at intervals of 300m or less.

I'm not adverse to them, I've hunted a few PTs, and I have one myself, although it is not a simple P & G series.

Aghhhh!, I hate mint tins for this very reason, the rolled edge often makes it almost impossible to get the logs out. Sorry rinsemesocks

Re: 246 caches found in 24 hours by a team of 3

Last October I managed to find 100 caches in the ACT in one day on a four day solo caching visit. I started at 5am and finished around 7.30pm. I rode a mountain bike and found the "50 Places You Must See' series, the 'AFL' series, then I walked the 'NRL' series, and drove around the Weston area to f...

Re: Sistema and glue

Another trick if you are using a Sistema container with magnets glued inside the bottom, is to grind off the base 'ridge'. I just rub it on my concrete driveway until the bottom is flat, that way you have a closer fit for the magnets to grab onto the steel.

Re: Sistema and glue

What ever adhesive you use will work better if you rough up the plastic surface first. I prefer to use a 100 grit and rub it in a criss cross pattern.

Re: Need new GPS

I've been using a Garmin Dakota 20 for about 2 years, hasn't missed a beat. I download caches direct from my PC. It shows log descriptions, logs, hints etc, etc. It fits in the palm of a hand, and has a nice readable touch screen. You can pick them up for under $300. In the end most new GPSrs work O...

Re: hi,new to geocaching!

Welcome to the......sport? activity? hobby? addiction? yeah addiction sounds about right :) You are certainly in a state ripe with caches to find, take it slow at first, don't hide too many caches until you get a feeling for how the better caches are placed. If you are using a phone app, that will b...

Just as I was getting into caching, Tangles ceased caching and archived a lot of his great hides, which I had on my to do list.

Garmin Dakota 20 spares

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement USB rubber cover for my Dakota 20? It is split and the unit is out of warranty. It appears to be held in place with two very small screws. Garmin have been useless with my inquiries, and the net comes up with zero results. Thanks, RS.
