Re: Garmin Birdseye

They have now reduced the download area from around 300mb down to 74mb which is a pain! On the plus side, it appears download times are very slightly improved...

This is still pretty pathetic for a paid service...

Re: group raids

As I have said on a note I posted. The owner ignored the cache for 4 years, and then after our "group raid" back in 2009, he was "amused" and said little more than that. THIS time around he carries on like this about it? Could learn a few things from my 5 year old.... "Fine, I'm taking my toy and I'...

Windows 7

I decided to take the plunge and have a go at installing Windows 7 Ultimate onto the EEE PC 100HE w 2gb RAM. XP didn't want to participate in making a USB Bootdisk, so I just did a Custom Upgrade from the Hard disk. Took just under an hour to install, and I must say that I am rather impressed with i...

Re: Garmin Birdseye

Also had issues with needing to upgrade the Firmware.
And also had an issue with the lack of a userdata.gpx file which Basecamp didn't like.

It's a very "beta" or even "alpha" program in my opinion.

Re: Garmin Birdseye

I think for the quality it's probably worth the $40, but the frustration of downloading the imagery is horrendous. I can't begin to explain the frustration of it. I have some sections downloading in a queue, and currently it's about 1/3 the way through one, but Garmin BaseCamp is using between 250mb...

Re: Garmin Birdseye

From what I've looked at they're around Google earth quality. Not super great and a bit outdated, but I'm hoping they vastly improve this each year, before I keep shelling out another $40. I'm a little "underwhelmed" by the quality but not really dissapointed. But it took several hours to download a...

Garmin Birdseye

Has anyone used it yet?

I find it to be quite tedious, and takes forever to download tiles. So much so, that it's hard to "play" around with.

Other thoughts?

Re: Power Trails: an (ammo) can of worms

I think ridiculous numbers of caches in a tight area like that would only be seen by outsiders as littering the road/path etc and do absolutely nothing positive for the sport in the long run.

Re: Can't unlock maps

With the current firmware on the Oregon and Dakota at least, you can now use whatever name you want on the SD card. On my Dakota's SD card I've got TopoAus.img, OSM.img ContoursV2.img and Shonky.img Makes it much easier to remember which is which! That's good to know because I've got City Nav 2010,...

Re: Can't unlock maps

not 100% sure, but i had a similar problem with my Oregon 550 and once renamed, it worked fine... generally it works as: gmapbmap.img - default base map gmapprom.img - primary map gmapprom1.img - secondary map gmapsupp.img - supplementary map which generally can be on unit & SD card gmappro2.img - a...
