Re: Geocacher of the month?

Yeah, the competition sure is fierce. Looks like I'm currently about 3 votes behind. It was quite an honor and quite a surprise to even be asked if I was interested in being nominated. I've also been quite humbled by some of the things that people have written about me - as really it's just me being...

Geocacher of the month?

I've been nominated for Groundspeak's geocacher of the month award for December 2012.
It's quite an honour and quite a pleasant surprise to have been nominated for it.

Please vote for me here to support my nomination for this award

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

I use an iphone and swap sims as I move between the two counties. Telecom and Telstra both support personal hotspot functionality on the iphone (allowing you to use it as a wifi hotspot for computers to access) - if that helps. The issue is probably more one of whether the bands used by Telecom are ...

Re: Forgotten to log caches.

Not alone at forgetting to log caches. The year before Oz Mega Wagga Wagga, we returned from down south, via the Newell Hwy, and cached along the way. When Wagga Wagga came around, we had our attendance earmarked as a milestone cache- it may have been 1000. After Wagga Wagga, we again returned nort...

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

No sheep? Wow - You must be the cleverest Australian there is to come up with that one - how did you come up with something so original. I know Australians seem to be facinated by NZ sheep, but NZ doesn't have many sheep now - most of the farm land was converted to dairy farms in the 1980s and 1990...

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

From my post in the http://gps.org.nz forums The NZ MEGA Organising Committee encourages anyone to get into the spirit of Pathtags and Geocoins. Designs for both are at your own imagination. These may be swapped within teams throughout the lead up months to NZ MEGA 2012. The main theme for the NZ ME...

Re: Some BIG caching days ahead?

Mind you it just wouldn't feel the same based on power trails... :-k I was involved in the group from NZ that set a record of 195 finds in Adelaide on 12th December 2007 - waaay before power trails exisited. You're right - its not the same, however the finer end of it (the difference between a 450 ...

Some BIG caching days ahead?

On Friday 6th April 2012 a small group of NZ cachers 'accidentally' did 230 caches in a day whilst traveling to Albury for Oz MEGA (we started with the 188 Wandering Heros caches and went from there). From the limited investigation that we've done, it seems that this may have been a new Australian r...

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

So that little cat is out of the bag, along with the fact that Brian Roth (one of the other co-founders of Grounspeak is attending). Don't worry, there are still more surprises to come.

Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

I'd recommend the fly into ChCh and drive south option. It's what I'll be doing (as I am defecting to Australia later this year). There is free and / or cheap campervan parking in most areas of NZ, though there is a bit of a local rebellion against freedom camping in some areas where campers have du...
