I went through that phase, spending more time tweaking the machine instead of actually using it. It will probably pass, especially as ubuntu does more and more without the need for fiddling with each release.

Re: Do we have any Linux users in the Audience tonight?

Tech question. Does Ubuntu/Linux read/write external USB NTFS hard drives? e.g. If I had an XP machine and a Linux laptop could I simply (i.e. seamlessly) exchange the drive between machines? EcoDave :) Good question! :) I think it is possible, but not out of the box as NTFS read/write support is s...

Re: Do we have any Linux users in the Audience tonight?

Own up - put your hands up high, even if your dual booting. What sort of Linux are you using. Why the change. How long have you had it? Give us a genuine review? What are you using it for? Mapping, Home products, Graphics etc etc Bronze. - I'm seriously considering changing over to the dark side - ...

Server outage [closed]

The server was unresponsive for a little while this afternoon, but as you can see, it's back now. According to the excuse generator ... a bit bucket overflow was the cause. :) Actually, we don't know what happened (it might have been google lapping up everyone's keywords), but kicking the web server...

Although the live site is on Postgres, most (all?) of the GCA devs are developing on Mysql (I have a WAMP style environment under both win and lin) with a flick of a switch. So, you can probably start developing now, and even if the postgres cutover doesn't happen really soon (I don't think it will ...

Depending on the location, the lands dept of NSW has a geocode lookup on their site. IIRC, whereis.com.au could be used to do it, if you don't mind wading through the page source to find the coords. Not sure if that's still the case. Good geocoding is big business, based on my research. There's not ...

Absolutely, it's the best chance you have of putting it back where it should be.

Depends what form the data takes. If waypoints or tracks, then there are lots of formats available, GPX, KML, POI to name a few.

I'll have a closer look at it today.

Sounds interesting! I'd love to check this out and see if it can be converted to other formats.

Any chance of a link being posted that doesn't need forum registration? I'm happy to if need be, but best avoided. :)

Cheers,

In my admittedly limited experience, Palm and PPC development is so wildly different that porting something is a fairly serious undertaking. Can't hurt to ask though, I guess.
