Re: eTrex not talking to Windows
Hi. I once had a serial cable plus serial->USB adapter cable, to connect an old Garmin to a laptop. The laptop needed an appropriate driver installed to make the adapter work. From memory RS232 was the one used. Good luck.

Yes I'm still here and check the GCA forum/s most days. Mostly a lurker these days, but I'm still interested.

Re: Archived trig points
I personally enjoy getting out into the bush to find a cache, but almost nowhere now is completely public. Land management authorities seem to prefer big permanent scars through the bush, rather than small temporary ones. Who's doing the archiving? Are Trig listings subject to approval from an autho...

Re: Two Swedish cachers in a car from Adelaide to Brisbane
Hi, While in Brisbane, why not try a drive west towards Mount Nebo, and Mount Glorious. The higher you go, the more rainforest-y it gets. Maybe also meander northwest through Samford, Samford Valley, Dayboro and beyond. There are a few caches along the way. Cheers and bon voyage.

Re: Reading the new(ish) Earthcache guidelines
Hi. In some SE Queensland parks, track damage and land slips are still being repaired from the wet summer two years ago. Mostly areas of high (people) traffic are being fixed first and for some reason it's taking a long time.

From memory, USB sockets (GPS and PC) should be good for a few thousand plug/unplug cycles.

Re: A event for Introverts!
So, is this (non) Event cache still going ahead? Yes/No.
Something would be good, like "Fill a bag with litter today while caching, put it in the boot, and throw it in your Wheelie bin when you get home." virtual Event for Introverts. Everyone could participate, even Extroverts .

Re: "Throwdown" or "angel cache"?
As you have looks-like gathered, there are various opinions about the topic and a variety in thickness of rose-coloured glasses. Circumstances change with time; cache owners move away from the cache area and/or caching. If you feel that you must place your own container at someone's cache site, 'for...

Re: entering co-ordinates into Garmin Nuvi
used Digital degrees or ddd°mm.mmm' Hi. The above format would be degrees and digital minutes. Perfect for geocaching. On the nuvi, go to Where To>Coordinates>Format> hddd mm.mmm' >OK. Then enter away. Generally speaking, the nuvi is suited for in-car use. Cheers. If that doesn't make sense, what c...

Re: Caches to Nuvi 1450
Hi. Preferences and Waypoints/Favourites are erased. My maps (pre-installed and added maps) aren't erased but have to be de selected at Tools>Settings>Map>Info, after a hard reset. There's always some degree of risk but I've never had a problem with it. Auto-routing, turn-by-beep maps on the handhel...

Re: Caches to Nuvi 1450
Hi. The best meathod I found was have one GPS setup just for caching. My nuvi had/has an annoying 'feature' of auto-copying info in .GPX files to other user folders and also to it's own onboard memory. I remove unwanted GPX files from the nuvi and Reset to factory defaults every couple of outings to...

You could open them in Google Earth, if it helps.
