Background: I'm quite keen on the Tracks4Australia project, however the free version does not have searchable towns. Solution: I've produced a transparent Garmin MapSource map that can either be used on it's own on top of the GPS' basemap, or loaded at the same time as the T4A maps. Provides searchi...

It is possible to use a program called MapDekode to convert the T4A maps into .dbx files which TrackMaker can open, but you would have to do it for each individual map and it's not always a ...

Hi, yes it's prety easy to put POI into a Garmin map .img My suggested method would be to use a utility called GPX2SHP http://gpx2shp.sourceforge.jp/ This takes a gpx file and outputs a .shp file which can then be fed into GPSMapedit (&cgpsmapper) or GPSTrackmaker (&Mapdekode) Both of these programs...

I did a quick write up of a Legend back to back with a GPS Map 60 http://www.gps.org.nz/content/view/69/45/ Summary: Legend: Pros: - * 1,000 waypoints (more than my 60) * Great screen with fine detail * Light * Cost – big bang for the buck! Cons: - * 8mb for mapping * Slow serial uploading * Int...

You could try img2gps which is a front end for SendMap - it has 'map sets' which you can load and save to file for ease of use grouping different maps together. (it doesn't save the maps, just a list of the maps)

As an alternate to photographing the screen, have a look at http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=545 from Garmin for taking screen dumps or another alternative is G7ToWin (from http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm ) which can also capture screen dumps (albeit a bit slower than ximage...
