Depending on the location of the pcmcia slot on your laptop, another option might be a CF GPS card (Sirf III of course) and a CF/PCMCI adapter card (?$10-20, available from mittoni.com.au or ow.com.au).

I have a bluetooth gps (globalsat bt-338) and am very happy with it (I previosuly had a CF GPS for my pocket pc). Sirf III chipset - very fast to fix and holds signals well.
