Re: Any opposition to geo-name changes

I'd kind of like to change my name because it was just a quick decision late one night in 2002 to get access to the site, my initials and postcode.
But 20 years down the track, with pathtags and trackables and 150 odd caches it would just be too traumatic.

Re: Drone Cache (Split from original thread)

Don't forget that the CASA rules are generic across Australia in the air, but each LGA or council can set their own rules. Many councils require a permit to fly (Geelong) or do not permit taking off in Public Reserves (Bayside, Vic). The cache would need to comply with all of these regulations, and ...

Re: Shop Postage (Pathtags)

I'm surprised they bother, they must have a very conscientious postal clerk somewhere. I once worked as a night sorter as a part time job while I was at Uni. If a sorter thought a letter was over weight, they had to stop work, fill out an entry in a book, attach a sticker to the letter, and put it a...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong :( If I look at a GCA cache log for a Moveable cache, then if it's a Moved log, the new coordinates show as a hyperlink. When I click on the hyperlink, it opens up Google Maps in Chrome, but only the map, there is no pointer indicating the exact position. Sure...

Re: GPS protocol: The next week number rollover next year

I'm sure the firmware/software in GPS units and smartphones managing the GPS chip and functions will take care of this.

Re: New phones to have 30cm GPS accuracy in 2018

How will it be when phones have better accuracy than a dedicated GPS? I'm not sure but I think we're there already. If I'm having trouble finding a cache I pull out my phone (Samsung GS8) and I reckon it's better than my Oregon 750 as far as accuracy is concerned. It's only battery life and fragili...

Re: Phones & GPS

I have a Garmin 650 and a Samsung S8.
I generally use the Oregon for planned caching excursions but if my life depended on the accuracy of the location, I'd use the phone.

Re: Loading Trig Points into Garmin 650

Yes that works for a GPX file loaded directly. Haven't tried it from a GSAK load as yet. Yes, works for me too, thanks Peter. I tried it using the GarminExport macro, and it works for that too. There are 23 cache types in mainstream and I think about another 7 in GCA, and I suspect we'd have the sa...

Re: Loading Trig Points into Garmin 650

It looks like Garmin have been fiddling in the filter area of the later software versions. You can filter by Trad Multi Mystery Letterbox Event Mega CITO Earthcache Wherigo Virtual and WebCam No mention of Benchmark, which means we could have a problem, and TPs are no longer viable on the better Gar...

Re: Loading Trig Points into Garmin 650

Copy the GPX file directly to your GPS and see if that works for TPs. If so, then it's a GSAK setting. That doesn't work for me on either 5.0 or the newer 5.1 firmware that I just loaded. (Also testing last night I couldn't load them via GSAK by any method.) I have had trigs in the past on the GPS ...

When I dragged the Query GPX file directly across into the Garmin GPX folder in the GPS, same thing.
Nope Peter, tried that.

Can't see a filter set, everything else seems to be there except TPs.

Re: Loading Trig Points into Garmin 650

Thanks Peter. I updated my GCA profile to use V1.0.1 with the same results. All GCA caches in a Query were able to be imported into GSAK. When I transferred them from GSAK to my Oregon 650 using the GarminExport macro, they all went across except the Trig Points. When I dragged the Query GPX file di...
