Re: Calibrating my Garmin 60CSx
[quote="Kerry"] No problem with the calibration of a compass, that's traditional, just absolutely horrific if you are expected to calibrate the thing every time you wanted to use it. So yes I do think any compass you have to calibrate every time you want ot use the dam thign is rather useless.[/quot...

Re: Calabraiting my Garmin 60CSx
You may need to do this each time you use it for best results.
It's fairly easy to work out when you need to do it because it generally results in the needle pointing to the target with much better stability than before.

Re: Where are we all from??? (introduce yourself) parts 1&2
Hi, Not sure why I haven’t left an entry here previously. My name is Geoff and I live in Sandringham with my wife, two uni aged kids, a dog, two turtles and 9 goldfish. In the pecking order of things, I can dominate a couple of the goldfish but that’s about all. I got (chose) a GPS for Christmas in ...

Re: GARMIN DAKOTA 20
I think the paperless caching angle is a double edged sword. it's good for finding caches if you plan ahead or have wireless or phone capability, but I think it leads to very short and monosyllabic logs. When someone finds one of my caches I like to see how they enjoyed the hunt, what they liked abo...

Re: 160 metre rule
Use the search function in GCA to find a cache.
Across to the right hand side of the screen there are a number of hyperlinks
Click on the Google Maps one
You should see the cache on a Google map
Now look for the boxes at upper left

Re: 160 metre rule
I remember seeing a facility here a while back which plotted the 160m "no go" zones around existing caches, but I can no longer find it. Could someone please post the link to it. I'm pretty sure it was on GCA but I can't remember where and a quick look just now failed to turn it up. I think that sho...

Re: Who to blame? The cacher? The GPS? Moi?
In my view, the objective with traditional caches is to make them easy for the cacher to find, but very hard for a muggle to find accidentally. Therefore, if they are not relatively easy for the cacher to find using the obvious signs, then I try to leave a very clear hint. I do think some cachers ma...

Re: Race to FTF,
I was fumbling around in the dark about a week ago trying for a FTF on a new cache in Cheltenham Park when BackPAQer came along with his torch and sprung me. He was the first cacher I had met in the wild since I started in 2002, although I'm not as relentless as some, well...... most. And then today...
