Re: Garmin etrex 30 problem
When you load .gpx file or files onto your GPS, do you always use the same file name? If so, that could be part of the problem. If not, disregard. Another troubleshooting tip is to remove all .gpx files from your GPS, disconnect from your computer and then boot your GPS. Once it has booted, turn it ...

Re: Hunting Time
in order to gain experience, try some caches that are rated for beginners and if possible However, some cachers have been changing their difficulty and terrain ratings to 1.5 when they should be more so that the geocaches show up on the free apps for non-premium members. This could really frustrate...

Re: Hunting Time
With one of the ones I was looking for yesterday, I'd seen a picture of GZ in a log so I knew I was in the right spot. Unless the photo was supplied by the CO as a hint/spoiler, that assumption can lead you astray. The cache might have been moved by the CO to a more suitable spot since the photo wa...

Australia's latitude and longitude coordinates out (article)
I wasn't sure where to post this so I figured I'd plonk it down here. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-07-28/aust-latitude-longitude-coordinates-out-by-1-5m-scientists/7666858 First couple of paragraphs. The continent of Australia is on the move and experts at Geoscience Australia are trying to keep ...

Re: The return of Challenge caches
I love challenge caches, except for streaks. I'm glad they're back and from what I've read so far, the changes seem ok.

Re: So where/how do you draw the line re safety?
G'day Furrhan, So, as a new geocacher, the story in the OP post in this thread got me thinking. He mentioned that he found some needles while he was searching. Gloves are often dictated in suburban caching due to the possible presence of both broken glass and needles. I wear leather "Riggers" gloves...

Re: Garmin eTrex Touch 35 or Oregon 600?
I take that back about the low light photography. I just found some unlisted survey markers and used the 650 to capture them (I sound like I'm playing Pokemon Go already). The flash was intelegent enough to put out a pre-light to gauge distance, it then focused correctly and then took the image. He...

Re: Garmin eTrex Touch 35 or Oregon 600?
Garmin's website makes it easy to compare different models' specifications. On the specs alone, the Touch 35 wins. It has more than twice the amount of built-in memory and most other aspects are pretty much equal. The Oregon 600 has better screen resolution. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/catalog/p...

Re: Cachers setting ALL their hides difficulty at 1.5 stars
Incorrectly stating D/T ratings is annoying and for the reasons given in the OP, but I find that incorrectly stating the container size even more irritating because container sizes and not subjective, and yet there are CO's in my area who consistently state the wrong size. Container size, like D/T r...

Re: Cache found longest distance from coords
Early last week I set off in search of a multi only to discover that no co-ordinates for GZ were available. The information we collected in the field was the combination of a safe. The location of the safe was given in the hint. "Hope you're not feeling 'drained'". The entire cache was in a retardin...

Re: HIGH SCORES - can you really find this many?
Were those caches in Australia or was it the E.T. Highway in the US? If the latter, then that many finds is certainly possible given the way that particular power trail is usually done. BTW, an 18 hour day isn't really trying.

Re: Mass logging by donuts4711
Is there much difference between what donuts4711 is doing and all the Australians who've logged "Armchair" http://coord.info/GC3JC5T ? Just curious. :-k What am I missing? I don't get it. Two sets of co-ords for a trad that was published only 4 years ago and an invitation to log without signing the...

Re: Tomtom vs Garmin in car GPS
I suggest a bit more research. About 18 months ago I started looking for a replacement for my Tomtom Go 730 and discovered, to my horror that the models that were new at that time would not accept custom POI's. Several months later, a firmware update changed that. I can't tell you which models they ...

Re: How many metres is a mintute and second in Log and Lat
Thanks everyone. I have a Garmin eTrex 10 and the manual is very brief. :( I tried to enter the coordinates but could not figure out how to. Got to the correct screen but didn't seem to allow me to put in coords. I will have to down load a more extensive "manual", assuming one exists. I want that m...

Re: Garmin Communicator Plugin NOT detected.
If you're using Firefox, the plug-in won't work. That has been the case for over a year and by all reports, it won't change. Personally, on the rare occasions that I want to load just one or maybe a couple of caches, I save the .gpx file to my laptop's hard drive and then just copy the files onto my...
