Re: Geocacher banned on unfair terms (IMO anyway)

Sharing should only be done by those who own the cache. That's why he's a dick. Totally agreed. on a related topic about sharing information... As someone who has the most number of puzzle caches in Australia and I know that my puzzle final coords do get handed around, for the first time ever in 7+...

Re: Cache difficulty/terrain ratings

Might be simpler if the half ratings weren't there at all but that's not going to happen. How many 4.5/4.5 caches would there be? You could get a lot of visitors (relatively speaking) to your cache by having a weird combination. I can't see how a difficulty 1/terrain 5 cache could exist as terrain ...

Re: Cache difficulty/terrain ratings

This has been noted before by others but I have a system for terrain rating at the high end of the scale. 4.0 You might get injured finding this but you will be able to self rescue. (Broken arms, wrists, trashed ankles, bad flesh wounds) 4.5 You might get seriously injured finding this and you will ...

Re: Munzees!

Munzee first started playing up on Saturday 10th, it refused to OK my user name and pwd on the Android app, even though I could login via a browser. By Sunday night the browser method was timing out as well. After seeing some of the replies to people who were noticing the huge amount of data downloa...

Re: 'Finding' Archived Caches

As there's a new Planet of the Apes movie out in a few months is there anything to stop Groundspeak reinstating them with clones of the original container? Considering that most of us with lots of caches already do this activity each weekend, just to keep the hobby ticking along... So are so many pe...

Re: orienteering forums?

Another thing to have in the car is a decent first aid kit and make sure you have tweezers for extracting bits of broken scrub and yakkas, plenty of antiseptic and a bottle of water for washing the inevitable scratches/wounds and gashes. As others have said clue sheet holder is handy as when you fol...

Help the FBI solve a cipher..1

For all those mystery/puzzle cipher sleuths... http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/march/cryptanalysis_032911 03/29/11 On June 30, 1999, sheriff’s officers in St. Louis, Missouri discovered the body of 41-year-old Ricky McCormick. He had been murdered and dumped in a field. The only clues regarding...

Re: Wanted: MSP430 programmer

Once the unit has been programmed, the USB/serial I/O is no longer required, so the cost of a unit could be cut by having a Arduino programming plug adapter. Also, everything may be able to be integrated onto one board to obviate connectors/interconnection. I could have a look at that and "Eagle" u...

Re: Wanted: MSP430 programmer

Arduino is certainly easy platform to work with. I guess the GPS engine will be more than half the cost of total project. Perhaps a cut down/bare bones once it has been fully developed. Good work! GPS chip was about $35, LCD about $15, Arduino dev board about $15 :-), Pololu about $8. I did hunt ar...

How is this project going. I am interested...lots of micro experience, always short of tine :) Went with an Arduino board. Most of the programing is done, GPS working, LCD working , Pololu switch working, keypad :!: all good ,up to getting things mounted and some more testing with regard to power s...

Re: For the pedants amongst us ...

Reminds me of the puzzle cache the Wibbles published and the spelling mistakes were the actual cipher to solve. People flamed Claire over the spelling, totally missing the whole point of the puzzle. Doubly funny as Claire is rather ...correct...about spelling. :) (Sorry for the potential spoil...

Re: Deaddrops (USB). An interesting caching idea.

In terms of needing to write to the device, at GCA, you could set them up with a codeword on the device which you then use to log the cache as proof of your visit at the GCA site. Aha, the infamous 'codeword' cache! Good idea. :-$ I still haven't seen any simple ways to make the dead drop read-only...

Re: Deaddrops (USB). An interesting caching idea.

To my way of thinking the Chirp has pretty much superceded this idea. It can give you a URL to the data and save you lugging your netbook/notebook around the place and having elicit relations with a strange dongle. :D Good luck loading a video file onto a Chirp, or an image, or anything more than 5...
