Re: Cacheopoly
As soon as you collect your current quest, you can roll again. Quests must be on caches found on or after your last roll. So if I roll today and land on a quest, I cannot claim a cache that I found and logged yesterday. The cache must have been found / hidden today or later. e.g. I roll and land on ...

My LGA
In an attempt to make the Geocaching Australia site more useful in terms of LGA challenges, today the development team announce that we have created a My LGA page for your LGA enjoyment. You can get to the page from your "My Cacher Space" https://geocaching.com.au/my/ page which also controls access...

Re: Discussion of new LGA zones
We do that on purpose. The offshore islands that are part of the LGA, OSM can include them in the water boundary as a simpler zone or as specific polys with tight fitting lines to each island. We use the simpler zones for performance purposes. i.e. It takes a shorter time to get the data and match w...

Re: Report Site Issues Here
There is no glitch. The CO must be the one who tags the caches. If we allowed anyone to tag geoart caches for this challenge, all I would need to do is tag 2 caches in a series of (say) 20, find the two and make the claim. When it's the CO that makes the tags, the CO would tag them all, forcing the ...

Discussion of new LGA zones
As per the announcement, we have created a new set of LGA zones based on the latest information in the Open Street Maps database. We know this data is not perfect, but we use what is free and open :-) Some anomalies that are present at the moment: Fort Denison and in Sydney Harbour and Shark Island ...

Re: What's new on Geocaching Australia
You may have seen recently there has been some forum discussion around Local Government Areas. The development team have been hard at work generating data for a full refresh of the LGA's for Australia and New Zealand including some of the combined off-shore islands. These have just been loaded and a...

Re: Update of NSW Local Government Areas
Super Secret Stuff! For the moment, I'm going with Mount Buller which covers Mount Stirling. If I get time and interest I'll look into what I can source. My challenge will be misaligned data from multiple datasets. I very strongly suspect that the data used for almost all sources is the ABS data. Th...

Re: Update of NSW Local Government Areas
We have Mount Buller which covers Mount Stirling as the "missing piece" from Mansfield. French Island is an L9 ACT is an L4 Various islands are L4 Lord Howe Island is an L9 Huon Valley (Tasmania) also covers Macquarie Island which seems very weird, so we'll spilt those. Yulara and Ayers Rock Airport...

Re: Update of NSW Local Government Areas
Hmmm, can't find Mount Buller Alpine Resort. It's blank in the OSM data and the ABS data is not the same shape. I might have to just cut that shape from Mansfield and call it Buller.

Re: Update of NSW Local Government Areas
Nice, thanks. Good to know that is the case. We might seek to align ourselves to that data to minimise inconsistencies between sites planning LGA's.

Re: Update of NSW Local Government Areas
Thanks for that. There is inconsistency (as there always is) between different maps and details. e.g. Ku-ring-gai in OSM "owns" the land near the Roseville Bridge, but other data from the ABS and Google Maps says that land is actually "owned" by Northern Beaches. It appears that there may be a discr...
