Re: Need new GPS
We've been using Garmin Etrex 10 and 20 for a while now and find them to be excellent and very accurate. Dick Smith and Harvey Norman are offering the Etrex 30 at bargain prices lately. Even the Etrex 10 can be found under $100 (if you can get by without maps)

Re: GPS on a budget
We started off using our car GPSr and would take a sheet of paper along with coordinates and hints written down. After about 100 finds we bought a Garmin Etrex 10. These are a great little unit and very accurate, also, no need to take paper, just download coordinates straight off the computer. Have ...

Re: Have we hit mainstream?
We were looking around recently for a GPSr for our son who is now into meteorite hunting. We heard from a local camping/fishing store that doesn't sell them (??) that Harvey Norman did. We went and had a look and got a good deal on a Garmin Etrex 30. Didn't have to worry about buying online/ebay, wa...

Many thanks for that. I had mistakenly thought 500 was the limit.

overseas PQs
We will be going to Turkey very soon. How can I set up Pocket Queries to cover Turkey. At the moment I only download to GSAK 500 local PQs each week so I'm not sure how to go about doing more than 500 at a time. We will be using a Garmin Etrex 20. Are there free maps we can download for Turkey or ar...

Re: Newbie trying to download geocaches
I too have an eTrex 10 which I use alongside a Nuvi car GPS. It is dead easy to load individual (geocaching.com) caches to the etrex just by clicking the GPS icon. This is fine if you only want to do a few at a time in a selected area. To do large down loads then GSAK is the way to go, but, as previ...

Re: Full Logs
Nobody can officially take it over unless the original hider agrees. If they are uncontactable then that is a problem. If the area/hide is worth it then feel free to repair/replace the container. If it's nothing special just post a Needs Archived on it and one of the reviewers will eventually get r...

Re: New Program - GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)
Thank you Quiet1. We have used the Nuvi overseas (NZ) before we bought the eTrex and its been fairly accurate. We also use the Walk mode when not in the car. It's just this one time that its been so far out and coincided with the first time download of waypoints. Maybe its just a glitch. We've only ...

You think its time to book a date with the optometrist to check for cataracts only to find your glasses are covered with cobwebs.

Re: New Program - GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)
I accidently posted the following in the wrong forum thread. Not having a good run lately (except for 2 FTFs today). colleda wrote: OK thanks. I tried set-up as Etrex 20 and it seemed to work, that is, no error messages. I then checked the GPS and can only find 19 caches listed in Geocache File (all...

Re: New Program - GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)
OK, thanks. I have struggled to the stage where I have to Set Up my GPS however the Etrex 10 is not on the Garmin list. The nearest to it is Etrex Basic Yellow (next are Etrex 20 & Etrex 30) so I selected that. Next I go to Send Waypoints to send all in my database (512) but I get an error message "...

Re: Full Logs
Since starting this post we now carry a small supply of materials and last Sunday we found a cache in which the log has been wet for 12 months!! We cleaned out the (Tupperware) container, dried it then placed a strip of paper, for signing, in a dry plastic bag to suffice 'till the CO could carry out...

Re: Hiding Caches with a Smartphone..
How accurate has your smartphone been in locating caches? If it consistently takes you to GZ then maybe it will be accurate enough using averaging. Or does it get you not so close and then you start hunting?
