Re: Senate - Call for Nominations for 2015

I have enjoyed my time as a GCA senator and hope that I've made a positive contribution. However, given that I'm not very active as a cacher at the moment, I think it's appropriate that I stand aside in favour of someone more committed. But in the unlikely event that nobody else puts their hand up, ...

Yes, but -1 on the post code search. Post codes aren't a geographic classification. Not all postcodes apply to to a geographic area, and not all geographic areas have a post code.

Re: Caching genealogy

I was introduced to geocaching by my wife. She was introduced by a magazine article...will that be an option in the pick-list?

Re: GSAK on android tablet

You are right. There's no way of putting records into the GPS , which is why I wanted it. Guess I'll have to continue lugging laptop . not entirely true , depending on your Tablet it might work with an OTG cable, if it can "mount" the GPS drive. Yes, but that only works if you either pre-convert yo...

Re: NZ

Why is it that NZ caches have the area in brackets after the cache name? eg. Cavers Delight (Fiordland) Stumped (Southland) Rigney (Central Otago) Do the gc.com reviewers add this? If so, why in New Zealand and not in, Australia for instance? They appear to be Regional Councils. http://en.wikipedia...

Re: Bingo - The moving cache race for 2012/2013

We've got at least one cache that'll only be available for the duration of this game. Is it possible/courteous/practical to add a stipulation in the GCA description that "Found" logs will only be allowed if they adhere to the 1km rule? Bit of encouragement to those on the sidelines to get into the ...

Re: Report GCA Site issues here

If you look at the file you will notice it is very much taller than wider. What's all that ice needed for. Actually it's needed because of the way the program works. It knows the bounds of the map in lat lon. So it plots the points on the map as an offset from a known set of Cartesian coordinates. ...

Google maps - age of layers

This is just trivia, but I never realised that google map images could be different ages at different levels of zoom. At 100m zoom: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-OQ1v93Nq9O0/UFJ_XzVICrI/AAAAAAAAADw/gobjnY_4NpA/h120/Wetlands+100m+zoom.png the old playing is still there. Same place, at 50m zoom: ...

Re: Logging Archived Caches

I dont actively seek archived caches, but will log a find if I happen across one. And thats the difference - its finding the physical cache that prompts me, so I dont go 'Oh I wonder if there used to be a virtual cache here' and look online for it later so I can log it.
