Its worthwhile checking to see if the device is installed correctly. On windows XP: Right Click 'My Computer' Select hardware -> device manager Scroll down the tree to Ports (COM & LPT) Click the + sign and check the ports. As an example, mine has 'Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4) Spot on Ri...

What resources and costs are we talking about in hosting GCA?

Is it possible for i! to post documentation on how the site currently operates giving details on hardware, OS, hosting location, domain registraation fees, time in administration/development, etc?

Looks like the gpx files (well the ones I received) are incomplete. If you open the file up with a notepad editor, you can see that the files abrupty end partway through the <wpt> content. These files are standard (1.0) XML files and each section which starts with a <> tag MUST end with a correspond...

Which GPSr to buy for projecting waypoints

Up till recently we only had the one yellow eTrex, now we have three but as many of you know they can only project waypoints down to the 100m.

Am looking for another (inexpensive) GPSr that could project down to the 1m

Any advice?

Down by Law had 20 waypoints. This cache recieved 7 visitors before being archived. Maintaining the waypoints was the problem... And I throughly enjoyed it too! Took us 1/2 a days driving to all the points, we knew in advance how many points there were and their locations. With this information we ...

If there is no Dhcp server available I usually set up the addresses manually somewhere in the 192.168. x/24 address space and then set up the DNS and gateway addresses. On a wireless network, unless you want to share it with the neighbours/friends, I would set it eric-668124cb68 to use the ip addre...

Haven't dealt with a wireless network, but gernerally you need to modify the LAN connection settings on the PC without the dialup connection, modify the TCP/IP settings to set the default gateway to the other pc's IP address The on the pc with the dialup connection, you need to go the the Advanced t...

..you need not worry if the hole is right through. Just stand (read kneel) and wait 4 x the above time and the GPSr would come right back (courtesy simple harmonic motion). Note the time would be more as g is not constant (I calculate it to be around 83 minutes) Thanks Astro. I knew there was an eq...

All perfectly possible until the bit about throwing your GPSr down a hole. That just wouldn't happen What if you were walking past the hole whilst caching and tripped on an adjacent rock and dropped your GPSr? I'd love to see the track log from the GPSr :!:  It wouldnÂ’t be very in...
