Geocaching as a travel tool

I'm running geo-scout on my PDA which allows me to download Google maps of anywhere at various scales and of Map, Terrain and Satellite views which are then cached on the device itself so I have local maps at my fingertips in foreign countries without needing that uber-expensive data connection. We ...

Re: 70 +caches in a day... How do you do it ?

I've done quite a few 40+ days, 1 or 2 50+ days and I think I still hold the NZ record for 77 caches in 24 hours. Usually there's a bit of planning that goes into these days. The 77 cache run started at 7am and went until 3am the next morning. Most of the other big days have usually only been daylig...

Re: New Vic GPS laws

I've figured out that the best abuse of a loophole in this law is to mount the phone/gps in a clear plastic sleeve which is built in to your clothing. That way you take advantage that the device is in your clothing (pocket) which satisfies one requirement, and if it's behind plastic...you technicall...

I ended up using something similar to the Boulter Logger...something I wrote in Excel...was very quick...and personalised :)
It also provides a sort of trail that people can follow from cache to cache in the order we did them.

Re: New New Zealand record for most caches in a day*

Gary and Glyn have already logged theirs with the aid of a script - I might use the boulter logger to do my logs...but I might string the whole epic saga as a story across all the caches...so if anyone is interested, if they read my logs in order across all 87 caches (including the 10 DNF's) it shou...

New New Zealand record for most caches in a day*

(* day being a contiguous 24 hour period). Glyn (The Only One) - also known as Glyn TOO or G-2 KiwiGary and myself (BackPAQer) keen to regain the title after holding it briefly at 43 caches in a day 2 years ago. headed out at 7:30am on October 3rd in weather that ranged from "windy" to "wet and wind...

then again...how many here have actually tried driving in New Zealand? It's a whole new world let me tell you! Driving in Australia feels like a cruise through a parking lot restricted to handicapped patients...visually handicapped patients.

Re: Personal Safety

I was doing Seesaw (Newport) late Friday night. And in checking around to be absolutely sure that I was alone and not being watched, I scoped around the skateboard park as if doing a "security check". Kinda glad I did as there were some teenager/early20's kids hiding in the skateboard bowl that I ha...

If you were in a 4WD...and he was just in a sedan or wagon (2WD)...you could have headed off down a 4WD track and see how far he follows ;) But yeah...I'd be call...
