Re: Why no caches in Coonabarabran
There was at least one. It was inside, or sometimes resided on top of, the minature observatory, out the front of the tourist information centre.

Re: Seems like it's time to throw away your maintenance kit
Well, it seems that maintenance is only supposed to be performed by the cache owner. In the case of the cache I mentioned, I even used the same container, albeit with a request for a subsequent cachet to bring a spray can of rust coloured paint. Apparently, the CO can remove the Needs Maintenance at...

Re: Seems like it's time to throw away your maintenance kit
It would be interesting to see how cache placement rules that apply here in Australia, but are different in the USA, and vice versa, are handled. Cache placement proximity to rail corridors is one I would be particularly interested in. The rules in Qld, and as far as I know, the rest of Australia, a...

Re: Seems like it's time to throw away your maintenance kit
Personally, I think it's a case of being extremely over zealous. I don't know where this reviewer is from, but I don't think they are from Oz. I recieved a email threatening archiving of one of my caches, because it had a string of DNFs on it, about 5. Not unusual for that particular cache, it has a...

Seems like it's time to throw away your maintenance kit
Well, I am in a bit of a state of disbelief at the moment. I know a lot of cachers out there carry maintenance kits, and perform maintenance on caches that need it, when we find them. I have done this for years, replaced full log books, sharpened or replaced broken pencils or pens, even occasionally...

Got up and on the road at about 6.30 to grab an FTF as a commemoration. Only about a 120km round trip.

I must admit, I didnt use a GPS, but another well known similar program on the net. That, and the clues on this page. I am heading out...

Any lessons for the newbies to be learnt here?
And a little but of chest pumped up self promotion. Did a TB drop off to one of my own caches this morning. Having a look through the log book, I realised its still the original one, as is the container. Checking, I found that this cache- GCYZ1H ▼ CARORICA, Gladstones TB Motel, has never been disabl...

Re: HIGH SCORES - can you really find this many?
Back, way back, not long after I started caching, in October 2006, I held the record for the most amount of finds in one 24 hr period, in Qld, at 62. We have exceeded this daily tally on numerous occasions since. As more and more caches get placed, higher and higher numbers are theoretically possibl...

Re: Newbie thread: Which GPS brand to buy - Garmin or Magellan?
And now, I am looking for a new GPS unit. But some background info first. Years ago, I started caching with a Garmin GPS60. After a while, I went to a GPS 60CSx. This is great for up close caching- more to come. I never got maps for the 60, and went out later and bought a Garmin Nuvi 500. This was a...

Have we had an Oz Mega 2014 post mortem yet?
So, a month and a bit on, how does everyone feel about Oz Mega 2014? If I have missed a post mortem thread, then this one can be canned, and I can be duely redirected. This thread is also not meant to be a bitch session, but an honest critique of the event, now that people have had to mull over what...

Re: Which way do you put a log book back--
Ahh, yes, but then the zip lock bag- very often about 4 times the size required- becomes caught under the lip and tears, or the pencil, included with the logbook in the oversized baggie (another pet hate of mine) pokes a hole in the bag.
Don't get me wrong, I have some Eclipse tin caches.

Which way do you put a log book back--
into an eclipse tin. Our recent 4 week trip to Oz Mega gave us a find total of around 430 caches. A lot of caches these days are eclipse tins- not the best but they seems to be gaining popularity. In addition, a log book with a staple at one end is a popular addition, along with a pencil. No doubt, ...

Re: OZ Mega Murray Bridge
Our planned itinerary is currently still out due to, of all things in a drought, flooding in SW Qld. Fingers crossed it dries out a bit over the next few weeks.
