Re: Loading Trig Points into Garmin 650

Whilst I have no need to load TPs what I do with loading non-geocache locations into my Garmins (78s, Montana 650t) which use file systems similar to the Oregon 650, is that I load them from GSAK into the gps as Custom POI. They will appear listed in the gps's "Where To" options as "Extras" and appe...

Re: Cache found longest distance from coords

My best was a geocache that was 30 whole minutes of longitude in error. The CO had made a typo when submitting the cache. It was the hint, and my local knowledge, that twigged me that the coord was possibly in error. A quick check with Google Earth solidified that idea. I rushed out and found the ca...

Re: Geelong Accommodation

I stayed in a cabin at the Barwon River Tourist Park (www.barwoncaravanpark.com.au), 153 Barrabool Road, Geelong last November. It was very handy to ride the Rail Trail and being adjacent to the Barwon River also provided great access to cyclocache the riverside trails as well.

Re: GSAK Macro - for Filtered list -> D/T Grid

Have you tried either of the FindStatGen3.gsk or FindStatGen45Beta.gsk macros? They both provide the 81D/T grid as well as many other statistics related stuff.

Re: This may launch a cat among the pigeons

 I had never before heard of archived caches being "Locked" to prevent logging. :-k As a CO, how does one set this on your old archived caches? There doesn't seem to be a setting in "Edit".

Re: Dubious Finds

Oh yes, there are some of those 'cachers' out there. I recently received a 'find' on one of my caches with the only log comment being a single Japanese keyboard character. A quick check of the cache (not far from my home) revealed that there was no signature in the cache's logbook. I deleted the web...

:-" Montana's auto-route, have a big bright screen AND turn by voice. :D

Re: Caches to Nuvi 1450

The nuvi uses a basically similar file structure to that of the newer Garmin handhelds. My Garmin handhelds (78s and Montana 650t) contain only track log data in the Current.gpx file - that's all I save in there, I don't save/load routes. Geocaches are saved in a separate gpx sub-folder. I don't use...

Re: Palm Tungsten E2 and maps

Does the map have the GCXXXX number on it ?? Cheers There are a couple of GSAK macros that you can use. 1. myGMEv3.gsk is the one I normally use when going out caching. In it's user options you can set it up to show names, codes, or whatever. It will generate a Google Map, in your browser, showing ...

I also agree with Papa Bear Left's suggested option of using a phone as a PDA to store cache information. Phones are now providing valid options for many things.

Re: Palm Tungsten E2 and maps

:( Oh, just remembered something. Sending geocache information from GSAK to the Palm via Windows 7 is something that is not easily done as Palm have not written any drivers for Windows 7 (Palm have stated that they do not ever intend to write the drivers). Therefore, you will be unable to send any i...

Re: Palm Tungsten E2 and maps

:( Sad to report that maps cannot be loaded into the Tungsten E2, well at least I never managed that in the 8 years I have owned it. But the E2 can serve you well as the paperless repository of all your geocache information. You can use GSAK to 1. download cache coordinates to your gps, and 2. load ...

Have you taken the card out and then reseated it? Do this with the gps powered down, then power back up.

Re: Garmin Montana - SD card maps

Yes, Each profile has it's own settings. Seeing you are travelling by road select the Automotive Profile then press Map> Setup Map > Map Information and Enable the topo map- I take it that the map you have on the microSD card is The Garmin Australia & New Zealand TOPO v3 which is routeable.

The Montana has all the nuvi voices available when mounted in the car cradle (contains the speaker).
