Re: Munzees!

I think Munzees are great, and believe they are the natural successor to all nano and most urban micro-caches. I agree finding a dozen around a shopping centre car park is a bit pointless, but there are plenty of caches like that too, and the points element on Munzees adds to the interest which isn...

Re: Where do you see geocaching in the next 10 years?

I must have foresaw this thread a couple of years ago when I told my Geocaching brother-in-law baby gopher that we are in 'The Golden Age of Caching'. Always the optimist but !!!! Ian Team Ladava Having started geocaching in 2001, I still look back on the 2001-03 period as the "golden age" of geoca...

Re: New Vic GPS laws

Is this in Vic only? I often travel interstate for work and take my GPS along for a bit of caching, but of course don't have a holder in a rental car.

Of course they seem to be assuming everyone has an in-car sat-nav system, which aren't very good for geocaching.

I've found 2 of them - ACT and Vic - I get up to Sydney quite a bit these days so should have a go at Lane Cove sometime.

OK, thanks for the input everyone. I have now ordered an eXplorist 600 on Ebay, from the states, US$356 delivered with swivel mount and case. Not sure how long it will take to get here.

Now I need to get some local maps for it.

Make sure you use the "Worldwide" check box on the left of the eBay screen to get units from the US, otherwise it tends to only show Australian sellers.

EcoDave :)
Ah! That makes a difference. You can see I don't use Ebay very much.

however it may be a little more expensive to buy it from an Australian retailer but cheaper if you have a warranty issue as the USA ones on Ebay wont be covered under warranty here in Australia. Cheers Greg Thanks I was doing those sort of calculations in my head. I basically did this last time - b...

New GPS - best place to buy?

Hi All,
I'm thinking of upgrading my 6-year-old Magellan 315 to something newer, with a colour screen, mapping capability etc.
I'm interested in either a Garmin 60CSX or Magellan Explorist 600. Can anyone recommend one or the other? (and I don't want to get into a Magellan vs Garmin slanging...

Google Earth

The resolution isn't great, particularly in Melbourne, it seems like the city centre and western suburbs are at a much greater resolution than the east. Anyone know if it's possible to get roads overlayed on it? Being able to read in GPX files is great, but the satellite basemap is at too low a reso...
