Re: cheap and quick data cable for Etrex H

Thanks for your reply Richary. I eventually found a cable that goes direct from Etrex to USB on Ebay from an Australian seller for $30 plus postage. Needless to say I jumped on it. In case anyone reads this thread and also wants one, the link is: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item...

cheap and quick data cable for Etrex H

I have an Etrex H which I've used on and off for a long time without a data cable. In about a week I'll be doing a project where it'd be good if I could download things from my Etrex. I've looked at my options: 1) Local - Johnny Appleseed - Garmin serial cable $55 + USB-RS232 converter cable generic...

no new maps for Navman MY50T?

I don't know much about GPS units - I have only used the Etrex H for hunting down a few caches and my phone GPS occassionally. A friend was given a Navman MY50T as a gift a year ago but just told me he hasn't been using it because the maps are out of date (missing some areas completely) and he would...

Re: looking for maps with Qld LGA boundaries

Thanks caughtatwork - that's perfect for my needs. Was just trying to see the point where 3 different LGAs meet and those maps show it really well!

looking for maps with Qld LGA boundaries

Does anyone know where I could find a map with LGA boundaries for Qld marked, with road names also marked (at least for the major roads)? Cheers!

Re: costs to use nearmap now?

Thanks for the link FarmerFrentzen and caughtatwork - I think I actually had that page bookmarked before getting a new computer. Wondering why I couldn't find it this time.... :? caughtatwork - why do I need a licence? In the past I already registered as a personal user and my login still works. Do ...

costs to use nearmap now?

I just went to use nearmap today for the first time in a few months and found that you can't get in without paying a fee. Am I at the right site? http://www.nearmap.com? If I'm at the right site does anyone know when this change happened? Myself and hundreds of other students are supposed to use it ...

Re: water bottle holder belt

Thanks Team Wibble and Dippedidooda. The one with the two bottles looks interesting but I don't use sports drinks so probably just one larger bottle for water would be best for me and with least fuss. It sounds like the Nike one must be well designed/nicely balanced so I'll look around and see if I ...

water bottle holder belt

I'm after a water bottle holder belt like this: http://www.pedometersaustralia.com/p/4831458/caribee-waist-water-bottle-holder.html . I mainly want to use it for bushwalking/caching but it would also be good to use for running if it doesn't move around too much. Just wondering if anyone here uses on...

Re: Australian Height Datum - levelling survey?

Thanks for your patient explanations Kerry. I've got a hold of "The Adjustment of the Australian Levelling Survey 1970-1971" since I last posted and its been interesting to have a flip through. The intro gives a rundown of the process to establish AHD71 and the adjustment of further supplementary le...

Re: Australian Height Datum - levelling survey?

Thanks Kerry - that's a really helpful explanation! I can actually picture the two way levelling proces now. So, referring back to the paragraph from the ga.gov.au website in my first post - would this be the order of things?. At some point in time prior to 5 May 1971 they started going to the tide ...

Re: Australian Height Datum - levelling survey?

Thank you. Thank you. Its making much more sense to me now. Any ideas on what surveying activities were undertaken? Keeping in mind there were 30 tide guages around the coast of Australia involved. The Geoscience Australia website says the coastline of Australia is 35877km for the mainland or 59736 ...

Australian Height Datum - levelling survey?

I'm trying to get my head around the concept of datums and pretty much get it but am a little confused about how the Australian Height Datum was established. Hoping someone here might know something about it as this is the only place where I know anyone with any geographical interest.... On the Geos...

Re: Helpful Hints for Newcomers

normally if you just google the coordinates, you can get google maps to display a map in the results :) If you enter loc: S35 AA.BBB E149 CC.DDD you will get the exact location and not the nearest street address Not sure if I'm doing it right but I can only get an approximation. Degrees are right b...

Does anyone know if there's a way to find a location on google maps or nearmaps by entering co-ordinates?
